St. Louis Battlehawks place RB Mataeo Durant and LB Callahan O’Reilly on injured reserve

The St. Louis Battlehawks placed running back Mataeo Durant and linebacker Callahan O’Reilly on the injured reserve list on Thursday according to the UFL Transactions page.

Mataeo Durant is five foot eleven and weighs 196 pounds. The 24-year-old from Plum Branch, South Carolina, has 22 carries for 134 yards, one touchdown, and five catches for 18 yards in three games for the St. Louis Battlehawks in 2024. The Battlehawks drafted Durant in the fourth round (31st pick) in Phase 1 of the 2023 XFL Draft. In 2023, Durant had 41 carries for 126 yards and 11 catches for 78 yards in nine games.

Before St. Louis, Durant signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2022. He played two preseason games with three carries for 11 yards, and two catches for six yards before Durant was released on August 23, 2022.

Collegiately, Durant played four seasons at Duke (2018-21) with 489 carries for 2,562 yards, 18 touchdowns, 55 catches for 480 yards, four touchdowns, 12 tackles (10 solo, 2 assists), and one forced fumble in 44 games for the Blue Devils. Durant became the ninth player to surpass the 2,000-rushing yard mark during their career.

Callahan O’Reilly is six foot two and weighs 230 pounds. The 25-year-old from Bozeman, Montana, has 20 tackles (11 solo, 9 assists), two tackles for loss, and one sack in three games for the St. Louis Battlehawks in 2024. The Battlehawks signed O’Reilly as a free agent on November 28, 2023. Before St. Louis, he attended the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp but was not offered a contract.

Collegiately, O’Reilly played five seasons at Montana State (2018-22) with 277 tackles (149 solo, 128 assists), 15.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, six interceptions for 121 yards, one touchdown, 11 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two carries for 80 yards, and one touchdown in 54 games for the Bobcats. He was named First Team All-Big Sky Conference in 2022.
