Arrow McLaren announced on Monday they have parted ways with driver David Malukas. Malukas signed with the team on September 8, 2023, but a left wrist injury, which occurred February 11, in a mountain biking incident, has kept him out so far this season. Arrow McLaren has had drivers Callum Ilott and Theo Pourchaire fill in for him.
“The past three months have been challenging. I felt privileged to have had the opportunity to drive for Arrow McLaren and regret that it never materialized. I would have loved to have continued representing the team and its partners going forward. They have been good, and I appreciate all they have done for me,” said Malukas.
“I’ve done everything possible to speed up the rehab process—treatments, physiotherapy, strength training—but my recovery has taken longer than anticipated. Every injury is different, and everybody heals at a different pace. I’ll turn my full attention to getting back to 100 percent and then prove that I am ready and able to compete to win.”
David Malukas is a 22-year-old from Chicago, Illinois. This season, Malukas is ranked 16th in the points standings with two top-five and six-top ten finishes. His highest finish this year was third place at the World Wide Technology Raceway on August 27, 2023.
Malukas has raced the past two seasons with Dale Coyne Racing w/HMD with two top-three and three top-five finishes in 33 starts. His highest finish in his two seasons in IndyCar was second at World Wide Technology Raceway in 2022.
Before IndyCar, Malukas made headlines in 2021 racing in the Indy NXT (then Indy Lights) with 16 podium finishes with HMD Motorsports including seven poles and seven wins finishing second in the championship standings behind Kyle Kirkwood. He competed two seasons in the Indy Lights Series with HMD Motorsports and BN Racing with four poles, seven wins, and 18 podium finishes.
In addition, Malukas competed in the USF Pro 2000 Championship (3 poles, 3 wins, 6 podium finishes in 2018), ADAC Formula 4 (1 pole in 2017), and USF2000 Championship (1 pole, and 1 podium in 2017).
Arrow McLaren is finalizing its driver assignments for the remainder of the 2024 season and will announce confirmations for upcoming races in due course.
