Saskatchewan Roughriders sign defensive lineman Sidney Houston Jr.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive lineman Sidney Houston Jr. on Tuesday.

Sidney Houston Jr. is six foot two and weighs 246 pounds. A native of Cahokia, Illinois, Houston Jr. played three seasons at McKendree University (2019-21) making 106 tackles (49 solo, 57 assists), 16 tackles for loss, and nine sacks in 24 games for the Bearcats.

In 2021, Houston Jr. was named First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in which he made 70 tackles (34 solo, 36 assists), 12 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks in 11 games.

Then, he transferred to Ball State (2022-23) with 126 tackles (66 solo, 60 assists), 24.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 24 games for the Cardinals.

In 2023, Houston Jr. made 59 tackles (35 solo, 24 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 12 games. Houston Jr. led the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in tackles for loss (17) and ranked fourth in sacks (8) on his way to being named First Team All-MAC after the season.
