The D.C. Defenders released defensive back D.J. Swearinger on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
D.J. Swearinger is five foot ten and weighs 208 pounds. The 32-year-old from Greenwood, South Carolina, made 20 tackles (15 solo, 5 assists), and two fumble recoveries in five games for the D.C. Defenders in 2024. The Defenders signed Swearinger as a free agent on April 4, 2023. In 2023, Swearinger made 18 tackles (14 solo, 4 assists), one interception for 62 yards, and one touchdown in three games.
Before D.C., Swearinger was drafted by the Houston Texans in the second round (57th pick) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Indianapolis Colts playing 110 games making 425 tackles (327 solo, 98 assists), 13 tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and 14 interceptions for 109 yards.
Collegiately, Swearinger played four seasons at South Carolina (2009-12) making 244 tackles (184 solo, 60 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions for 94 yards, two touchdowns, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in 52 games for the Gamecocks. He was named Second Team All-SEC in 2012.
