The Edmonton Elks transferred quarterback Steven Montez to the retired list on Friday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Steven Montez is six foot four and weighs 231 pounds. The 27-year-old from El Paso, Texas, signed with the Elks as a free agent on January 18, 2024.

Before Edmonton, Montez signed with the Washington Football Team in 2020. He also spent time with the Detroit Lions on two separate occasions. In 2023, Montez completed 1 of 2 passes (50%) for six yards in one game for the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) against the D.C. Defenders in the North Division Championship game.

Collegiately, Montez played four seasons at Colorado (2016-19) completing 824 of 1,321 passes (62%) for 9,710 yards, 63 touchdowns, 33 interceptions, 343 carries for 960 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one catch for 11 yards in 47 games for the Buffaloes.
