Saskatchewan Roughriders sign WR Braydon Johnson and Punter Joe Couch

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed wide receiver Braydon Johnson and punter Joe Couch on Monday.

Braydon Johnson is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Arlington, Texas, signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was released on June 2, 2023.

Collegiately, Johnson played five seasons at Oklahoma State (2018-22) making 79 catches for 1,314 yards, 8 touchdowns, four carries for 49 yards, and 24 kick returns for 431 yards in 46 games for the Cowboys. In 2022, Johnson made 32 catches for 566 yards, three touchdowns, and two carries for 17 yards in 10 games. Johnson was the fastest player on OSU’s roster throughout his career. Johnson graduated with a degree in Biology and University Studies.

In high school, Johnson finished with 1,261 all-purpose yards as a senior, including 729 receiving yards, 335 kick return yards, and 152 punt return yards, all of which were the most on his team. He scored eight touchdowns and averaged 25.3 yards per punt return and 30.5 yards per kickoff return.

Joe Couch is five foot eleven and weighs 210 pounds. The 29-year-old from Torquay, Victoria, Australia, played Australian rules football for Geelong College and trained with Prokick Australia before making his way to the United States.

Collegiately, Couch played three seasons at Ouachita Baptist University (2021-23) punting the ball 76 times for 3,397 yards (44.7 AVG) with a long of 63 yards, 10 touchbacks, 13 fair catches, 30 from inside the 20-yard line, 26 from 50-plus yards, 13 kickoffs for 751 yards (57.8 AVG), three touchbacks, and one carry for -9 yards in 29 games for the Tigers.

In 2022, Couch was named First Team All-Great American Conference, First Team D2CCA All-Region, and Second Team D2CAA All-American after punting the ball 32 times for 1,387 yards (43.3 AVG) with a long of 60 yards, two touchbacks, six fair catches, 15 from inside the 20-yards line, and 8 from 50-plus yards in 12 games.

The following year, Couch punted the ball 29 times for 1,297 yards (44.7 AVG) with a long of 63 yards, four touchbacks, five fair catches, 11 from inside the 20-yard line, and 10 from 50-plus yards in 11 games. Couch was named Second Team All-Great American Conference in 2023 and earned an invite to the College Gridiron Showcase. Couch majored in Kinesiology with a minor in nutrition and dietetics.
