Emmanuel Arceneaux Announces Retirement after a 14-year Pro Career

On Tuesday, three-time CFL West All-Star Emmanuel Arceneaux officially announced his retirement after a 14-year Pro Career.

“I gave a lot to the game and the game was good to me,” Arceneaux said. “I created some memories and had one heck of a career. You know, at some point, you’ve got to take the cleats off and hang them up, and I just thought that the time was now.”

Emmanuel Arceneaux is six foot two and weighs 218 pounds. The 36-year-old from Alexandria, Louisiana, made 28 catches for 346 yards in 12 games for the Edmonton Elks in 2023. The Elks signed Arceneaux as a free agent on January 26, 2022.

In 2022, Arceneaux made 39 catches for 513 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Elks. He was named the Tom Pate Memorial Award in 2022 by the CFL Players Association for outstanding sportsmanship in making a significant contribution to his team, his community, and Association.

Before Edmonton, Arceneaux signed with the B.C. Lions on May 19, 2009. He played two seasons in British Columbia making 130 catches for 1,972 yards, 12 touchdowns, and eight carries for 29 yards in 36 games.

Next, Arceneaux signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2011. He played one season making one catch for ten yards in three games. Then, Arceneaux spent time with the New York Jets and Washington Redskins before returning to British Columbia in 2013. In his second stint with B.C., Arceneaux made 426 catches for 6,197 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 21 carries for 73 yards in 93 games. He was named two-time CFL West All-Star and three-time CFL All-Star.

In 2019, Arceneaux signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He made 22 catches for 249 yards, and two touchdowns in 14 games. In 2021, Arceneaux signed with the Frisco Fighters (IFL) making 36 catches for 320 yards, and six touchdowns in 11 games.

Collegiately, Arceneaux played four seasons at Alcorn State (2005-09) making 99 catches for 1,618 yards, and 12 touchdowns for the Vikings.
