Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign ten players from the 2024 CFL Draft

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receivers Abdul-Karim Gassama and Kevens Clercius, offensive linemen Gabe Wallace, Michael Vlahogiannis, and Ethan Kalra, defensive linemen Owen Hubert, and Kyle Samson, linebackers Lucky Ogbevoen and Fabian Weitz, and long snapper Ian Leroux on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Abdul-Karim Gassama is five foot eleven and weighs 175 pounds. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gassama was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the sixth round (55th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Gassama played five seasons at the University of Manitoba (2018-23) making 98 catches for 1,444 yards, 13 touchdowns, 26 carries for 179 yards, two kick returns for 19 yards, and 14 punt returns for 78 yards in 29 games for the Bisons.

Kevens Clercius is six foot two and weighs 212 pounds. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Clercius was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round (13th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2023, Clercius made five catches for 56 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 12 games for the Huskies.

Clercius played three seasons at UConn (2021-23) making 49 catches for 604 yards, five touchdowns, two tackles (2 solo), and one forced fumble in 37 games for the Huskies.

In high school, Clercius played on the Junior National team in Canada winning the 2018 IFAF U19 World Championship against Mexico.

Gabe Wallace is six foot six and weighs 337 pounds. A native of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Wallace was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round (17th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Wallace played five seasons at Buffalo (2019-23) playing left tackle, right tackle, and right guard in 49 games for the Bulls. In 2022, Buffalo’s offense ranked in the top five in the conference in scoring offense (28.5), total offense (377.2), and passing offense (235.3). Wallace was named Third Team All-MAC in 2023.

Michael Vlahogiannis is six foot four and weighs 300 pounds. The 25-year-old from Town of Mt. Royal, Quebec, was drafted by the seventh round (64th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Vlahogiannis played five seasons at McGill University (2019-23) playing center in 19 games for the Redbirds and served as one of the co-captains during the 2023 season. He was named First Team All-Canadian in 2023.

Ethan Kalra is six foot two and weighs 309 pounds. The native of Acton, Ontario, Kalra was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the fifth round (40th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Kalra played four seasons at the University of Waterloo (2019-23) playing left guard and left tackle in 29 games for the Warriors. In 2023, the Warriors averaged 20.89 points per game, 180.1 rushing yards per game, 195.44 passing yards per game, 355.1 average total offense, and 20 touchdowns.

At the combine, Kalra benched 23, a 5.54 in the 40-yard Dash, an 8.28 in the Cone Drills, and a 4.96 in the Shuttle Drills.

Owen Hubert is six foot four and weighs 255 pounds. A native of Norwood, Ontario, Hubert was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the eighth round (73rd pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Hubert played four seasons at McMaster University (2019, 2021-23) making 65 tackles (42 solo, 23 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one kick return for one yard in 27 games for the Marauders.

Kyle Samson is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 23-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round (20th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2023 at UBC, Samson made 27 tackles (17 solo, 10 assists), seven tackles for loss, one sack, and three pass breakups in 11 games for the Thunderbirds.

Samson played four seasons at the University of British Columbia (2019, 2021-23) making 76 tackles (47 solo, 29 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, one interception for two yards, and four pass breakups in 33 games for the Thunderbirds.

Samson also played in the Ontario Provincial Football League for the Hamilton Varsity Tiger-Cats making nine tackles (5 solo, 4 assists), one tackle for loss, and a half sack in three games.

Lucky Ogbevoen is six foot three and weighs 225 pounds. The 23-year-old from Austria was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round (17th pick) in the 2024 CFL Global Draft.

Before Winnipeg, Ogbevoen played three seasons in the European League of Football for the Stuttgart Surge and Tirol Raiders making 175 tackles (86 solo, 89 assists), 18.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception, seven pass breakups, one blocked kick, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 24 games.

He was named an ELF All-Star in 2023 making 87 tackles (40 solo, 47 assists), 8 tackles for loss, two sacks, five pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 11 games.

Fabian Weitz is six foot and weighs 221 pounds. The 25-year-old from Cologne, Germany, was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the first round (8th pick) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft.

Weitz played for the Cologne Centurions (ELF) in 2023 making 20 tackles (12 solo, 8 assists), two tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery in ten games. Collegiately, Weitz played five seasons at Buffalo (2018-22) making 17 tackles (9 solo, 8 assists) in 22 games for the Bulls.

Ian Leroux is six foot two and weighs 220 pounds. A native of Quebec, Quebec, Leroux was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the fourth round (37th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Leroux will return to the University of Laval in 2024. He’s played four seasons at the University of Laval (2019, 2021-23) making 17 tackles (11 solo, 6 assists), one fumble recovery, and one interception for 34 yards in 29 games for the Rouge Et Or.
