B.C. Lions release WR Jamarius Way and placekicker Shane McDonough

The B.C. Lions released wide receiver Jamarius Way and placekicker Shane McDonough on Friday.

Jamarius Way is six foot four and weighs 220 pounds. The 27-year-old from Belle Glade, Florida, did not play for the Lions in 2023 as he was placed on the suspended list. The B.C. Lions signed Way as a free agent on November 7, 2019.

In 2022, Way played two preseason games for the Lions making seven catches for 87 yards before an elbow injury sidelined him. Before B.C., Way signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent on July 20, 2019.

Collegiately, Way played two seasons at Ellsworth Community College (2015-16) making 41 catches for 596 yards 11 touchdowns, one kick return for 16 yards, and four tackles (4 solo) in 11 games for the Panthers. In 2016, he was named First-Team All-Region and All-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference after making 40 catches for 594 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four tackles (4 solo) in 10 games.

Then, Way transferred to South Alabama (2017-18) making 108 catches for 1,617 yards, 11 touchdowns, seven carries for 38 yards, and two tackles (2 solo) in 24 games for the Jaguars.

Shane McDonough is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, went undrafted in 2023 and received a rookie minicamp invite from the Green Bay Packers. Collegiately, McDonough started at Marshall University (2017-18) but did not play either season for the Thundering Herd.

Next, McDonough transferred to Towson University (2019-21) with 105 kickoffs for 5,952 yards (56.7%), 30 touchbacks, 83 punts for 3,514 yards (42.3 AVG), a long of 72 yards, five touchbacks, 26 fair catches, 27 from inside the 20-yard line, 16 from 50-plus yards, one carry for one yard, and one tackle (1 solo) in 22 games for the Tigers.

He was named Third Team All-CAA in 2019. In 2021, McDonough finished second in the CAA with 42.2 yards per punt, putting 15 inside the 20 and having eight punts over 50 yards.

Then, McDonough transferred to North Carolina State in 2022 with 40 punts for 1,656 yards (41.1 AVG), a long of 59 yards, two touchbacks, 18 fair catches, 10 from inside the 20-yard line, and seven from 50-plus yards in 13 games for the Wolfpack.
