Alex Palou leads 39 laps to win the Sonsio Grand Prix in Indianapolis

The NTT IndyCar Series began the month of May on Saturday afternoon for the Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Road Course.

Chip Ganassi driver Alex Palou started the race on the pole RLL Racing driver Christian Lundgaard started second which made up the front row. Team Penske drivers Will Power started third and Josef Newgarden started fourth.

Christian Lundgaard muscled his way to the lead between Turns 5 and 6. Lundgaard led the opening 18 laps before making his first pit stop but would regain the lead on lap 23 after everyone made their scheduled pit stops. Lundgaard led up until lap 39 before making his second pit stop and Alex Palou was the new leader. Lundgaard led a total of 35 laps.

Palou pitted on lap 41 and his crew got him out quickly to stay in the lead on lap 45. Palou led 38 of the last 42 laps to win his first race of the season by 6.6106 seconds over Will Power. Palou led a total of 39 laps. The other drivers who led laps were Marcus Armstrong (3), Scott McLaughlin (2), Graham Rahal (2), Pietro Fittipaldi (2), Scott Dixon (1), and Alexander Rossi (1).

There was one caution throughout the race that happened on lap 66 when Luca Ghiotto spun around at Turn 10. The rest of the top five finishers were Christian Lundgaard third, Scott Dixon fourth, and Marcus Armstrong fifth.
