The Arlington Renegades (1-6) hosted the Memphis Showboats (1-6) on Saturday afternoon to kick off Week 7 of the UFL season from Choctaw Stadium in front of a crowd of 8,042 fans. The Renegades took care of business to get their first win of the season beating the Showboats 47-23.
Arlington had 415 yards on offense. Quarterback Luis Perez completed 27 of 32 passes (84%) for 296 yards, and three touchdowns. In the second quarter, Perez threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to J.P. Payton for a 14-3 lead with 14:11 left. Next, Perez found J.P. Payton again for 33 yards making it 39-9 with 3:05 left of the third quarter. Then, Perez threw a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sal Cannella for a 47-17 lead with 9:19 left in the fourth quarter.
Backup quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. completed 2 of 2 passes (100%) for 13 yards, one touchdown, and four carries for -3 yards. In the first quarter, Scott Jr. found tight end Sal Cannella for nine yards taking a 6-0 lead with 8:44 left.
Running back De’Veon Smith led the rushers with 14 carries for 101 yards, two touchdowns, and five catches for 35 yards. In the second quarter, Smith scored a one-yard touchdown making it 22-3 with 11:50 left of the second quarter, and another one-yard touchdown for a 31-9 lead with 7:46 left of the third quarter. The rushers finished the afternoon with 21 carries for 206 yards, and two touchdowns.
Tight end Sal Cannella led the receivers making 9 catches for 72 yards, and two touchdowns, and J.P. Payton made four catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns. The receivers finished the afternoon making 29 catches for 309 yards, and four touchdowns.
Kicker Jonathan Garibay made one field goal for 39 yards. Arlington’s defense made 66 tackles, three tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Memphis had 312 yards on offense. Quarterback Troy Williams completed 14 of 21 passes (67%) for 127 yards, one touchdown, one interception, six carries for 34 yards, and one touchdown. In the second quarter, Williams threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Daewood Davis which made it 22-9 Arlington with 7:01 left. Then, Williams scored a 15-yard rushing touchdown making it 39-17 Arlington with 18 seconds left of the third quarter. However, Williams left the game win an injury.
Backup quarterback Case Cookus completed 11 of 17 passes (65%) for 103 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. In the fourth quarter, Cookus threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Vinny Papale making it 47-23 Arlington with 1:02 left of the game.
Running back Darius Victor led the rushers with 11 carries for 33 yards and one catch for 8 yards. The rushers finished the afternoon with 22 carries for 96 yards, and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Daewood Davis led the receivers making seven catches for 83 yards, and one touchdown, while Vinny Papale made 7 catches for 55 yards, and one touchdown. The receivers finished the afternoon making 25 catches for 230 yards, and one touchdown.
Kicker Matt Coghlin made one field goal for 54 yards. Memphis’s defense made 64 tackles, three tackles for loss, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.
