The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-22) continued their six-game homestand on Saturday night against the Syracuse Mets (21-15) from Coca-Cola Park. Lehigh Valley pitcher David Buchanan (2-2, 4.11 ERA) was on the mound against Syracuse’s Dom Hamel (1-2, 6.58 ERA).

At the top of the second inning, Syracuse left fielder Luke Ritter hit Buchanan’s cutter for a solo home run over the wall at center field to take a 1-0 lead. Moving ahead to the bottom of the third inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with two outs for second baseman Jim Haley. Haley hit Hamel’s fastball for a two-run single to left field scoring Jordan Luplow and Darick Hall for a 2-1 lead. It was Haley’s third RBI of the season.

Moving ahead to the top of the fifth inning, Syracuse catcher Joe Hudson hit Buchanan’s cutter for a solo home run over the wall at center field tying the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley had runners on first and second base with designated hitter David Dahl up to bat. Dahl hit an RBI single to right field scoring Matt Kroon putting Lehigh Valley back up 3-2.

Lehigh Valley pitcher David Buchanan pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, three walks, and five strikeouts throwing 112 pitches, of which 75 were strikes. Ryan Burr (1.1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K) threw 24 pitches, of which 15 were strikes.

Max Lazer closed out the game for Lehigh Valley at the top of the ninth inning. With a runner on first, Syracuse catcher Hayden Senger made a sacrifice bunt to pitcher Max Lazer for the first out before Lazer struck out Luisangel Acuña and Ben Gamel ending the game. The IronPigs ended a seven-game losing streak defeating the Syracuse Mets by the final score of 3-2. It’s also the first win against Syracuse in this series.

Lehigh Valley finished the night with six hits and committed one error. The win went to Lehigh Valley pitcher David Buchanan. It was his third win of the season, and the loss went to Syracuse pitcher David Griffin (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB) throwing 21 pitches, of which 15 were strikes.
