The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-23) concluded their six-game homestand on Sunday afternoon against the Syracuse Mets (22-15) from Coca-Cola Park. Lehigh Valley pitcher David Parkinson (0-1, 5.27 ERA) was on the mound against Syracuse’s Tylor Megill (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
At the top of the first inning, Syracuse had the bases loaded when first baseman Luke Ritter hit Parkinson’s fastball for an RBI single to center field scoring Luisangel Acuña for a 1-0 lead. Then, Syracuse left fielder Trayce Thompson brought Mark Vientos home with a sacrifice fly to center fielder Cal Stevenson for a 2-0 lead.
Moving to the top of the third inning, Syracuse had runners on second and third base when first baseman Luke Ritter hit Parkinson’s changeup for an RBI single to center field scoring Mark Vientos for a 3-0 lead. Then, Syracuse left fielder Trayce Thompson brought Rylan Bannon home with a sacrifice fly to right fielder Simon Muzziotti extending their lead to 4-0.
That was it for Parkinson, who pitched three innings, allowing five hits, four runs, four walks, and two strikeouts throwing 69 pitches, of which 38 were strikes.
At the top of the sixth inning, Tyler Gilbert was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley. Syracuse had runners on first and second base when right field Ben Gamel hit a two-run double to left field scoring Hayden Senger and Luisangel Acuña for a 6-0 lead. That’s all the runs Syracuse needed as the IronPigs were shut out by the Mets 6-0.
Lehigh Valley finished the afternoon with 10 hits and committed two errors. They lose the series 5-1. The loss went to Lehigh Valley pitcher David Parkinson. It was his second loss of the season and the win went to Syracuse pitcher Tylor Megill (5.1 IP, 7 H, 6 K) throwing five pitches, of which two were strikes.
