Montreal Alouettes sign RB Michael Herzog and LB Geoffrey Cantin-Arku

The Montreal Alouettes signed running back Michael Herzog and linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku while releasing linebacker Jeremy Banks on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Michael Herzog is five foot nine and weighs 200 pounds. A native of Windsor, Ontario, Herzog was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the sixth round (56th pick) of the 2024 CFL Draft. Herzog attended the Detroit Lions rookie minicamp last week.

Collegiately, Herzog played five seasons at Hillsdale College (2019-23) had 430 carries for 2,273 yards, 29 touchdowns, 27 catches for 177 yards, and three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in 30 games for the Chargers. In 2023, Herzog had 230 carries for 1,333 yards, 21 touchdowns, 11 catches for 50 yards, and three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in 11 games.

At the 2024 CFL Combine, Herzog ran a 4.55 in the 40-yard dash, 39 in the vertical jump, 9’11 7/8 in the broad jump, 6.94 in the 3-cone drill, and 4.2 in the shuttle drills.

Geoffrey Cantin-Arku is six foot three and weighs 240 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lévis, Quebec, Canada, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the first round (9th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Cantin-Arku attended the Miami Dolphins rookie minicamp last week.

Collegiately, Cantin-Arku played three seasons at Syracuse (2019-21) making 107 tackles (79 solo, 28 assists), 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass breakup, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 30 games for the Orange.

Then, Cantin-Arku transferred to Memphis (2022-23) making 144 tackles (76 solo, 68 assists), seven tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception for 17 yards, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in 25 games for the Tigers. In 2023, Cantin-Arku made 79 tackles (41 solo, 38 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception for 17 yards, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in 13 games. He was named an All-AAC Honorable Mention in 2023.

Jeremy Banks is six foot one and weighs 224 pounds. The 24-year-old from Cordova, Tennessee, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was released on July 24, 2023. The Alouettes signed Banks as a free agent on February 29, 2024.

In 2022 at Tennessee, Banks made 53 tackles (33 solo, 20 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.

Collegiately, Banks played five seasons at Tennessee (2018-22) with 219 tackles (109 solo, 110 assists), 18 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions for 38 yards, eight pass breakups, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, one catch for 10 yards, 52 carries for 185 yards, and three touchdowns in 48 games for the Volunteers. He participated in the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl.
