Calgary Stampeders release ten players including DB Mazzi Wilkins

The Calgary Stampeders released quarterback Chris Reynolds, wide receivers Jaquarii Roberson and Josh Vann, offensive lineman Hunter Thedford, defensive linemen T.J. Rayam and Alex Tchangam, and defensive backs Larry Brooks III, Sharif Finch, Michael Griffin II, and Mazzi Wilkins.

Chris Reynolds is five foot eleven and weighs 202 pounds. The 25-year-old from Flemington, New Jersey, played one game for the Stampeders in 2023 completing 1 of 2 passes (50%) for five yards against the B.C. Lions in Week 10. The Stampeders re-signed Reynolds on November 22, 2023.

Collegiately, Reynolds played five seasons at Charlotte (2018-22) completing 793 of 1,273 passes (62%) for 10,271 yards, 84 touchdowns, 35 interceptions, 375 carries for 887 yards, 12 touchdowns, two catches for 46 yards, and one touchdown in 46 games for the 49ers.

Reynolds was a four-time Honorable Mention All-Conference USA and two-time Pro Football Focus All-Conference USA Second Team.

Jaquarii Roberson is six foot one and weighs 182 pounds. The 25-year-old from Murfreesboro, North Carolina, signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent and later spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Rams.

Then, Roberson signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) in 2023 but was released in April. He did not play a game for Houston. Roberson would later sign with the B.C. Lions playing one preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2023 making five catches for 44 yards, and one touchdown. The Calgary Stampeders signed Roberson on January 31, 2024.

Collegiately, Roberson played four seasons at Wake Forest (2018-21) with 146 catches for 2,158 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two carries for eight yards in 40 games for the Demon Deacons. He is a two-time Second-Team All-ACC selection.

Josh Vann is five foot ten and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from Tucker, Georgia, signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Vann made one catch for 21 yards, one kick return for 26 yards, and three punt returns for 17 yards in three preseason games for the Carolina Panthers. Then, Vann signed with the Memphis Showboats (UFL) on February 5, 2024, but was released on March 10, 2024. The Calgary Stampeders signed Vann on April 9, 2024.

Collegiately, Vann played five seasons at South Carolina (2018-22) making 108 catches for 1,352 yards, 10 touchdowns, seven carries for 73 yards, completing one pass for six yards, three kick returns for 29 yards, 19 punt returns for 239 yards in 57 games for the Gamecocks. He was named Fourth Team All-SEC in 2021 by Phil Steele.

Hunter Thedford is six foot six and weighs 260 pounds. The 27-year-old from Comanche, Texas, signed a futures contract with the Detroit Lions in 2021. Next, the Pittsburgh Maulers drafted Thedford in the eighth round (342nd pick) of the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft.

Thedford played tight end making 13 catches for 124 yards, and one touchdown in nine games for the Maulers. After Pittsburgh, Thedford had stints with the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. Then, Thedford signed with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent on June 5, 2023. In 2023, Thedford played in one preseason game for the Cleveland Browns in 2023 against the New York Jets.

Collegiately, Thedford played three seasons at Southern Methodist University (2016-18) making three catches for 36 yards, and five tackles (3 solo, 2 assists) in 23 games for the Mustangs. Thedford made the game-winning two-point conversion against Navy in 2018. Then, Thedford transferred to Utah in 2019 making two catches for 12 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 14 games for the Utes.

T.J. Rayam is six foot and weighs 291 pounds. The 26-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the 2022 CFL Supplemental Draft. Rayam played two seasons in Calgary making 20 tackles and three sacks in 21 games.

Collegiately, Rayam played five seasons at Boston College (2017-21) making 101 tackles (48 solo, 53 assists), 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two pass breakups in 50 games for the Eagles.

Alex Tchangam is six foot three and weighs 245 pounds. The 28-year-old from Douala, Cameroon, signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

Then, he signed with the B.C. Lions on November 22, 2022. Tchangam was released by the Lions on June 4, 2023, and later signed with the Calgary Stampeders on July 25, 2023. He played two games making one tackle.

Collegiately, Tchangam played two seasons at Colorado (2018-19) with 24 tackles (23 solo, 1 assist), four tackles for loss, four sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 21 games for the Buffalos.

Before Colorado, Tchangam played two seasons at De Anza College in Northern California for two seasons (2016-17) with 71 tackles (52 solo, 19 assists), 25.5 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks in 15 games for the Mountain Lions.

Larry Brooks III is five foot ten and weighs 200 pounds. The 23-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. He played three preseason games making seven tackles (7 solo). Brooks was released by the Bengals on August 29, 2023. Then, the Calgary Stampeders signed Brooks III on April 25, 2024.

Collegiately, Brooks played five seasons at Tulane (2018-22) with 216 tackles (161 solo, 55 assists), three tackles for loss, nine interceptions for 71 yards, 21 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 60 games for the Green Wave.

Sharif Finch is six foot four and weighs 250 pounds. The 28-year-old from Queens, New York, signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He played two seasons with 40 tackles (30 solo, 10 assists), six tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 24 games for the Titans.

Next, Finch spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Las Vegas Raiders, and Chicago Bears before joining the New York Jets. He played three games for the Jets in 2020 with one tackle (1 assist). After New York, Finch went back to Tennessee before heading to the New Orleans Saints in 2021. He played one game for the Saints with five tackles (5 assists).

Then, Finch signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons as a free agent in 2023. He made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in five games for the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in 2023. The Calgary Stampeders signed Finch on January 25, 2024.

Collegiately, Finch played five seasons at Temple (2013-17) with 144 tackles (85 solo, 59 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, two interceptions for 91 yards, one touchdown, five pass breakups, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, five blocked punts, and two punt returns for 27 yards in 53 games for the Owls. He was named Second Team All-AAC in 2017.

Michael Griffin II is five eleven and weighs 217 pounds. The 25-year-old from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, attended the Tennessee Titans training camp after signing with them as an undrafted free agent. Then, Griffin II signed with the Calgary Stampeders on March 8, 2023. Griffin II made 29 tackles, six tackles on special teams, one sack, and one touchdown in 13 games.

Collegiately, Griffin II played two seasons at Southwest Minnesota State (2016-17) with 89 tackles (58 solo, 31 assists), half a tackle for loss, one interception, eight pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one kick return for 23 yards in 19 games for the Mustangs.

Then, Griffin II transferred to South Dakota State (2018-21) with 159 tackles, seven interceptions for 77 yards, eight pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 39 games, of which 37 were starts for the Jackrabbits.

In his final season, Griffin II had 72 tackles, one interception, four pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 15 games. He was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team in 2019.

Mazzi Wilkins is six foot and weighs 191 pounds. The 28-year-old from Tampa, Florida, was on the practice squads of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Washington Football Team, and Baltimore Ravens. Wilkins played for the Alphas in the TSL in 2021. In the NFL, Wilkins played five games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 with three tackles.

 Next, the Philadelphia Stars drafted him in the tenth round (74th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. In 2022, Wilkins made 27 tackles (16 solo, 11 assists), two tackles for loss, and four pass breakups in ten games. The following season, Wilkins played five games for the Philadelphia Stars making 13 tackles (11 solo, 2 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, one pass breakup, and one interception for five yards. The Calgary Stampeders signed Wilkins on November 9, 2023.

Collegiately, Wilkins played four seasons at South Florida (2015-18) with 110 tackles (78 solo, 32 assists), two tackles for loss, a half sack, three interceptions for 21 yards, 22 pass blocks, and one fumble recovery in 47 games for the Bulls.
