The Michigan Panthers signed wide receiver Terry Wright and released defensive lineman Mika Tafua on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Terry Wright is five foot ten and weighs 177 pounds. The 27-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, was drafted by the Michigan Panthers in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft.
Before Michigan, the Seattle Seahawks signed Wright as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and made it to the practice squad. Wright also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, and Las Vegas Raiders.
In 2021, he signed with the Ottawa Redblacks but never played a game. Next, Wright was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) in the eighth round (62nd pick) in Phase 1 of the 2022 XFL Draft. However, Wright was released by the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) on January 30, 2023.
Then, Wright signed with the Philadelphia Stars as a free agent on February 9, 2023. In 2023, Wright made 13 catches for 142 yards, two touchdowns, 24 kick returns for 754 yards, and one punt return for 14 yards in seven games for the Philadelphia Stars.
Collegiately, Wright played two seasons at Coffeyville Community College (2015-16) with 50 catches for 805 yards, eight touchdowns, two carries for 14 yards, and 19 kick returns for 512 yards in 21 games for the Red Ravens. In addition, Wright competed in track and field.
Then, Wright transferred to Purdue University (2017-18) with 57 catches for 742 yards, five touchdowns, six carries for 46 yards, and one touchdown in 25 games for the Boilermakers. Wright also competed in one meet in the 4×100-meter relay.
Mika Tafua is six foot three and weighs 250 pounds. The 27-year-old from Laie, Hawaii, made 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assists) in seven games for the Michigan Panthers in 2024.
Before Michigan, Tafua signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In 2022, Tafua made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist), one sack, one quarterback hit, and one pass breakup in three preseason games. After Dallas, Tafua spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.
Collegiately Tafua played four seasons at Utah (2018-21) making 133 tackles (73 solo, 60 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 44 games for the Utes. He was named He was named First Team All-PAC 12 in 2021.
