The San Antonio Brahmas (6-2) hosted the Arlington Renegades (1-7) on Sunday afternoon in front of 11,395 fans at the Alamodome. The Brahmas had a 20-3 lead at halftime when Arlington made a comeback scoring 12 points and Arlington’s defense shut out San Antonio’s offense in the second half.
Despite Arlington’s comeback attempts, the Brahmas held on to beat the Renegades 20-15 to clinch the last playoff spot in the UFL. The Brahmas will play the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL Conference championship game in three weeks.
San Antonio had 375 yards on offense. Quarterback Quinten Dormady completed 17 of 25 passes (68%) for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and three carries for 13 yards. In the first quarter, Dormady threw a short pass to Anthony McFarland before he scored a 52-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 12:59 left. In the second quarter, Dormady found Anthony McFarland again for a 37-yard touchdown that made it 20-3 with 3:04 left before halftime.
Running back John Lovett led the rushers with 11 carries for 37 yards, while Anthony McFarland had 9 carries for 18 yards, three catches for 118 yards, and two touchdowns. The rushers finished the afternoon with 28 carries for 73 yards.
Wide receiver Cody Latimer led the receivers making six catches for 116 yards. The receivers finished the afternoon making 17 catches for 320 yards, and two touchdowns. Kicker Ryan Santoso made two field goals with a long of 26 yards. San Antonio’s defense made 61 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup.
Arlington had 262 yards on offense. Quarterback Luis Perez completed 22 of 33 passes (67%) for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and one carry for two yards. In the third quarter, Perez threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Sal Cannella which made it 20-9 with 11:19 left. In the fourth quarter, Perez threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to J.P. Payton which made it 20-15 with 1:20 left in the game.
Running back De’Veon Smith led the rushers with 10 carries for 38 yards and two catches for nine yards. The rushers finished the afternoon with 15 carries for 65 yards. Tight end Sal Cannella led the receivers making 9 catches for 87 yards, and one touchdown. The receivers finished the day making 22 catches for 209 yards, and two touchdowns.
Kicker Jonathan Garibay made one field goal for 33 yards. Arlington’s defense made 68 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries.
