Edmonton Elks sign quarterback Cole McDonald

The Edmonton Elks signed quarterback Cole McDonald on Monday.

Cole McDonald is six foot four and weighs 220 pounds. The 26-year-old from La Mirada, California, was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round (224th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Toronto Argonauts in 2021. In 2021, McDonald completed 4 of 8 passes (50%) for 45 yards, and one interception in one game.

On November 15, 2022, McDonald signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL). In 2023, McDonald completed 36 of 58 passes (62.1%) for 437 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 45 carries for 246 yards, and three touchdowns in 10 games.

Collegiately, McDonald played four seasons at Hawaii (2016-19) completing 616 of 1,004 passes (61%) for 8,032 yards, 70 touchdowns, 24 interceptions, 251 carries for 880 yards, and 12 touchdowns in 33 games for the Rainbow Warriors.

McDonald was named Second Team All-MWC, Alec Waterhouse Team MVP, and named the SoFi Hawaii Bowl MVP in 2019. McDonald ranked third nationally in passing yards (4,135), sixth in total offense (322.7/gm), seventh in passing yards per game (295.4), eighth in passing TDs (33), and ninth in points responsible for (242).
