Luis Perez throws three touchdowns leading the Renegades to victory

The Arlington Renegades (2-7) hosted the St. Louis Battlehawks (6-3) on Saturday afternoon from Choctaw Stadium in front of 8,545 fans. The Renegades fought a hard game to come away with a 36-22 win over the Battlehawks for their second win of the season.

Arlington had 345 yards on offense. Quarterback Luis Perez completed 24 of 36 passes (67%) for 259 yards, three touchdowns, and four carries for eight yards. In the first quarter, Perez threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sal Cannella for an 8-0 lead with 3:58 left.

In the second quarter, Perez found wide receiver Isaiah Winstead for a 27-yard touchdown making it 19-9 with 1:25 left. Then, in the third quarter, Perez threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Seth Green for a 27-21 lead with 6:28 left.

Running back Devin Darrington led the rushers with eight carries for 41 yards. The rushers finished the afternoon with 23 carries for 88 yards. Tight end Sal Cannella led the receivers making five catches for 70 yards, and one touchdown, and wide receiver Isaiah Winstead made four catches for 64 yards and one touchdown. The receivers finished the day making 24 catches for 259 yards, and three touchdowns.

Kicker Jonathan Garibay made two field goals with a long of 38 yards. Arlington’s defense made 56 tackles, one tackle for loss, three interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

St. Louis had 338 yards on offense. Quarterback Manny Wilkins completed 18 of 32 passes (56%) for 179 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, 10 carries for 51 yards, and two touchdowns. In the second quarter, Wilkins threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Saylors that made it 11-9 Arlington with 3:49 left. Next, Wilkins ran in for a one-yard touchdown cutting Arlington’s lead down to 19-15 at the end of the second quarter. In the third quarter, Wilkins rushed for a one-yard touchdown giving them a 21-19 lead with 11:53 left.

Running back Jacob Saylors led the rushers with 14 carries for 104 yards, one catch for 11 yards, and one touchdown. The rushers finished the day with 26 carries for 159 yards, and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Darrius Shepherd led the receivers making five catches for 47 yards. The receivers finished the afternoon making 18 catches for 179 yards, and one touchdown.

Kicker Andre Szmyt made one field goal for 20 yards. St. Louis’s defense made 62 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Next Saturday, the St. Louis Battlehawks wrap up the season by hosting the San Antonio Brahmas at 4 pm on FOX, while the Arlington Renegades wrap up the season at the D.C.
