Hamilton Tiger-Cats release wide receiver Johnny King

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released wide receiver Johnny King on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Johnny King is six foot five and weighs 209 pounds. The 24-year-old from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2023. The Colts released King on August 3, 2023, before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on August 8, 2023.

King made two catches for 54 yards in three preseason games before the Eagles released him on August 29, 2023. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed King on January 23, 2024, but did not play in the preseason opener against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Collegiately, King played one season at Arizona Western College in 2018 with 21 catches for 245 yards in ten games for the Matadors. Next, he transferred to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in 2019 with 18 catches for 198 yards, and one touchdown in five games for the Norsemen.

Then, he transferred to Southeast Missouri State (2020-22) with 124 catches for 1,638 yards, 13 touchdowns, one carry for six yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 31 games for the Redhawks. He was named Second Team All-OVC in 2021.
