Toronto Argonauts make several moves including signing LS Blaise Barber

The Toronto Argonauts signed offensive lineman Dare Rosenthal and long snapper Blaise Barber on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page. The Argonauts released wide receiver Xavier Malone and defensive back Kary Vincent Jr.

Dare Rosenthal is six foot seven and weighs 327 pounds. The 24-year-old from Ferriday, Louisiana, was the fastest offensive lineman to run a 40-yard dash in 4.88 seconds in the 2022 NFL Combine. Rosenthal signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

Then, Rosenthal attended training camp for both the Philadelphia Stars (USFL) and D.C. Defenders (XFL) in 2023. The Toronto Argonauts signed Rosenthal on February 20, 2024

In high school, Rosenthal was the top-rated defensive tackle prospect in Louisiana. He helped his team to the semifinals of the 2A state playoffs as a senior in 2017. In addition, Rosenthal was the nation’s No. 18 overall defensive tackle, ranked as the seventh-best defensive tackle in the south region, and ranked No. 193 overall by Scout.

In his senior season, Rosenthal made 60 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, six sacks, five quarterback hurries, recovered four fumbles, two touchdowns, blocked a field goal, and one interception.

Collegiately, Rosenthal played 13 games in two seasons at LSU (2019-20), of which eight were starts at left guard for the Tigers. In 2019, he played 229 snaps helping the Tigers go undefeated at 15-0 and win the CFP National Championship over Clemson.

In 2021, Rosenthal transferred to Kentucky and started 12 of 13 games for the Wildcats playing left tackle. He missed the Vrbo Citrus Bowl due to a leg injury late in the season and was named Third Team All-SEC by Pro Football Focus.

Blaise Barber is six foot two and weighs 250 pounds. The 25-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, signed with the Edmonton Elks in 2022 but was released during training camp. Then, Barber signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on May 4, 2023.

Collegiately, Barber played five seasons at McMaster University (2017-19, 2021-22) with 26 tackles (15 solo, 11 assists). He was selected to play in the East-West Bowl in 2021.

Xavier Malone is five foot nine and weighs 180 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mound Bayou, Mississippi, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2023. In the 2023 preseason, Malone made four catches for 83 yards in three preseason games earning himself a spot on the practice squad.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Malone on December 19, 2023. Malone appeared in one preseason game against the Montreal Alouettes in 2024 recording on stats.

Collegiately, Malone played two seasons at Northeast Mississippi Community College (2018-19) with 40 catches for 693 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games for the Tigers.

Then, Malone transferred to Henderson State University (2021-22) with 135 catches for 2,352 yards, 18 touchdowns, 11 carries for 86 yards, one touchdown, and ten kick returns for 208 yards in 22 games for the Reddies. He was named Second Team All-GAC.

Kary Vincent Jr. is five foot ten and weighs 189 pounds. The 25-year-old from Port Arthur, Texas, was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round (237th pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was later traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 for a 2022 sixth-round pick. Vincent Jr. played two regular season games for the Eagles making two tackles (2 solo). Vincent Jr. would also have a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

The Houston Roughnecks acquired him from the San Antonio Brahmas on January 23, 2023. Vincent Jr. made five tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) and three pass breakups in six games. The Toronto Argonauts signed Vincent Jr. on February 15, 2024. He played in one preseason game against the Montreal Alouettes in 2024 making one tackle.

Collegiately, Vincent Jr. played three seasons at Louisiana State University (2017-19) making 87 tackles (60 solo, 27 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions for 45 yards, and 15 pass breakups in 39 games for the Tigers.
