Saskatchewan Roughriders sign defensive back Marcus Sayles

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Marcus Sayles on Tuesday.

Marcus Sayles is five foot nine and weighs 176 pounds. The 29-year-old from Manhattan, New York, re-signed with the B.C. Lions on February 3, 2024. In the preseason, Sayles made one tackle against the Calgary Stampeders in 2024 before he was released on June 2, 2024.

Before B.C., Sayles signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He also had a stint with the Los Angeles Rams. On May 4, 2018, Sayles signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Sayles played two seasons in Winnipeg with 136 tackles, seven tackles on special teams, two sacks, six interceptions, two touchdowns, and five forced fumbles in 34 games. Sayles is a member of the 2019 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Grey Cup championship team and was named a CFL West All-Star in 2019.

The B.C. Lions signed Sayles as a free agent on January 9, 2021. In three seasons in British Columbia, Sayles made 158 tackles, three tackles on special teams, two sacks, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 49 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star for the second time in 2022. In 2023, Sayles made 38 tackles, one tackle on special teams, and one forced fumble in 18 games for the Lions in 2023.

Collegiately, Sayles played five seasons at West Georgia (2012-16) with 123 tackles (102 solo, 21 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, 24 pass breakups, and 13 blocked punts in 46 games for the Wolves.
