Michigan Panthers sign linebacker DaShaun White

The Michigan Panthers signed linebacker DaShaun White and placed quarterback Bryce Perkins and defensive end Jesus Gibbs on the injured reserve list on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.

DaShaun White is six foot and weighs 218 pounds. The 24-year-old from North Richland Hills, Texas, was drafted by the Panthers in the fifth round (32nd pick) of the 2023 USFL Draft. White played four games for the Panthers with seven tackles (3 solo, 4 assists).

After the season, the Panthers released him to pursue an NFL contract which he signed with the Buffalo Bills on August 21st. He played one preseason game against the Chicago Bears with one tackle. Then, White signed with the Michigan Panthers on September 11, 2023. In 2024, White made nine tackles (7 solo, 2 assists), one tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in six games for the Michigan Panthers. The Panthers released him on May 23, 2024.

Collegiately, White played five seasons at Oklahoma (2018-22) with 259 tackles (126 solo, 133 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and eight pass breakups in 63 games, of which 49 were starts for the Sooners. He was a Big-12 Honorable Mention in 2022.

Bryce Perkins is six foot three and weighs 214 pounds. The 27-year-old from Queen Creek, Arizona, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2020 spending two and half seasons on the practice squad while the Rams won the Super Bowl in 2021.

In 2022, Perkins played five games for the Rams completing 19 of 34 passes (55.9%) for 161 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and one carry for 19 yards. Then, Perkins signed with the Michigan Panthers on April 24, 2024. Perkins completed 30 of 38 passes (78.9 %) for 343 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, 20 carries for 180 yards, and two touchdowns in four games for the Panthers in 2024.

Collegiately, Perkins started at Arizona State (2015-16) but redshirted his Freshman year and missed the 2016 season with a broken neck. Next, He transferred to Arizona Western Community College in 2017 completing 114 of 180 passes (63.3%) for 1,311 yards, 7 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 69 carries for 353 yards, and four touchdowns in 10 games for the Matadors.

Then, Perkins transferred to Virginia (2018-19) completing 545 of 845 passes (64.5%) for 6,218 yards, 47 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 439 carries for 2,235 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 27 games for the Cavaliers. In 2019, Perkins set the UVA single-season passing record with 3,538 yards.

Jesus Gibbs is six foot four and weighs 275 pounds. The 24-year-old from Dumfries, Virginia, earned a rookie minicamp invite from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. The Michigan Panthers signed Gibbs on May 9, 2024. Gibbs made two tackles (2 solo), and one forced fumble in four games in 2024.

Collegiately, Gibbs started at South Carolina in 2018 as a redshirt freshman. Then, he transferred to Towson (2019, 2021-23) making 109 tackles (56 solo, 53 assists), 25.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 35 games for the Tigers. He was named a two-time Second Team All-CAA in 2022 and 2023.

In 2023, Gibbs made 40 tackles (23 solo, 17 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Towson Tigers. He was named Second Team All-CAA and Second All-CAA by Phil Steele in 2023.
