The Montreal Alouettes signed offensive lineman Jazston Turnetine to the practice squad on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page. In addition, the Alouettes placed defensive back Reggie Stubblefield on the six-game injury list. However, he will miss the rest of the 2024 season with the Torn ACL.
Jazston Turnetine is six foot seven and weighs 336 pounds. The 24-year-old from Ellenwood, Georgia, Turnetine had NFL tryouts with the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars but was not offered a contract.
Next, Turnetine was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in the tenth round of the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft. The Sea Dragons were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL). Then, the St. Louis Battlehawks (UFL) drafted Turnetine in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft but released him on March 10, 2024.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Turnetine on March 19, 2024. He appeared in two preseason games for Montreal before being released on June 1, 2024.
Collegiately, Turnetine played two seasons at Hutchinson Community College (2018-19) playing tackle in 10 games for the Blue Dragons. In 2019, he was named Second Team All-American after the Blue Dragons won the Salt City Bowl for the second year in a row. The Blue Dragons had a record of 19-5 during his time there.
Next, Turnetine transferred to South Carolina (2020-21) playing left tackle in 16 games for the Gamecocks. Then, Turnetine wrapped up his collegiate career at Florida State in 2022 playing 13 games, of which eight were starts for the Seminoles. Turnetine helped Florida State average 270 passing yards (270.2) and 210 rushing yards (214.1) per game.
In addition, FSU’s offense led the country with an average of 7.46 plays of at least 20 yards per game and tied for the national lead with eight touchdown drives of at least 90 yards. He earned the team’s Don Powell Award.
Reggie Stubblefield is six foot and weighs 195 pounds. The 25-year-old from Arlington, Texas, was drafted by the D.C. Defenders in the second round (10th pick) in the 2022 XFL Draft. The Alouettes re-signed Stubblefield on June 26, 2023.
He originally signed with the Alouettes on March 1, 2023, and played one preseason game for Montreal with four tackles against the Ottawa Redblacks before getting released on June 4, 2023. After he re-signed with Montreal, Stubblefield played a key role in helping the Alouettes win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by finishing the 2023 season making 38 tackles, three tackles on special teams, three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Last Thursday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Stubblefield made four tackles and one tackle on special teams before suffering the Torn ACL injury.
Collegiately, Stubblefield played four seasons at Prairie View A&M (2017-20) with 117 tackles (67 solo, 50 assists), 11 tackles for loss, three interceptions for 26 yards, 19 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two blocked kicks, and two punt returns for 13 yards in 20 games for the Panthers.
Then, he transferred to Kansas State in 2021 with 34 tackles (27 solo, 7 assists), seven tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 12 games for the Wildcats. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 by the Coaches in 2021.
