Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign FB/LB Bailey Feltmate and LB Tony Jones

The Winnipeg Blue Bomber signed fullback/linebacker Bailey Feltmate and linebacker Tony Jones to the practice squad and released linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel on Sunday.

Bailey Feltmate is six foot two and weighs 240 pounds. The 26-year-old from Moncton, Alberta, made one tackle and 15 tackles on special teams in 16 games for the Ticats in 2023. The Ticats drafted Feltmate in the second round (17th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In three seasons, Feltmate has four tackles and 35 tackles on special teams in 43 games. The Ticats released Feltmate on June 3, 2024.

Collegiately, Feltmate played five seasons at Acadia University (2016-20) with 203 tackles (152 solo, 102 assists), 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and five pass breakups in 31 games for the Axemen.

Tony Jones is six foot two and weighs 235 pounds. The 28-year-old from Casselberry, Florida, re-signed with the Edmonton Elks on February 2, 2024. He made four tackles in two preseason games. The Elks released him on June 1, 2024.

Before Edmonton, Jones was on the Toronto Argonauts practice squad in 2022. In 2021, Jones played for the Iowa Barnstormers (IFL) with 71 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in ten games and was named the IFL Rookie of the Year.

The Edmonton Elks signed Jones as a free agent on September 12, 2022. In 2022, Jones made two tackles and two tackles on special teams in two games. In 2023, Jones made 41 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble in 18 games for the Elks in 2023

Collegiately, Jones played two seasons at Butler Community College (2015-16) with 176 tackles (107 solo, 69 assists), 33 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, six pass breakups, and one interception in 22 games for the Grizzlies.

Then, he transferred to Texas Tech (2017-18) with 77 tackles (47 solo, 30 assists), 14 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries in 24 games for the Red Raiders.

Jeremiah Gemmel is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Newnan, Georgia, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He also had a brief stint with the Denver Broncos.

The Orlando Guardians drafted Gemmel in the first round (3rd pick) in Phase 6 of the 2023 XFL Draft. Gemmel made eight tackles (1 solo, 7 assists) and one tackle for loss in eight games for the Orlando Guardians (XFL) in 2023. Unfortunately, the Guardians were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL).

Gemmel signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on February 17, 2024. In a preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2024, Gemmel made one tackle.

Collegiately, Gemmel played four seasons at North Carolina (2018-21) making 238 tackles (136 solo, 102 assists), 20 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, two interceptions, 11 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 42 games for the Tar Heels. He was named Third Team All-ACC in 2021.
