The San Antonio Brahmas signed wide receiver Tavonn Salter, released offensive lineman Derrick Kelly II, and placed wide receiver Landen Akers on the suspended list on Wednesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Tavonn Salter is six foot two and weighs 194 pounds. The 28-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, went undrafted in 2019. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons on December 23, 2019, and was placed on the practice squad. In 2021, Salter played for the Conquerors (TSL) making 16 catches for 85 yards, and three touchdowns.
Salter also spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022. In 2023, Salter signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) on March 21, 2023. He made four catches for 47 yards in five games.
Collegiately, Salter played one season at Mt. San Antonio College in 2016 making 28 catches for 410 yards, two touchdowns, and two tackles (2 solo) in nine games for the Mountie. Then, Salter transferred to Middle Tennessee State (2017-18) making 21 catches for 297 yards, and two touchdowns in 14 games for the Blue Raiders.
Derrick Kelly II is six foot five and weighs 320 pounds. The 28-year-old from Gretna, Florida, played three games for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024 before being placed on the injured reserve list and did not return for the rest of the season.
San Antonio’s offense ranked fourth in total offense (2.996), fourth in rushing yards (962), third in passing yards (2,004), and tied for fifth in touchdowns (24). The San Antonio Brahams signed Kelly II as a free agent on March 7, 2023. He played three games for the Brahmas in 2023.
Before San Antonio, Kelly II signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2019. He also had stints with the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns. Kelly II played seven career NFL games.
Collegiately, Kelly II played five seasons at Florida State (2014-18) playing both left tackle and left guard in 33 games, of which 27 were starts. In 2018, Florida State’s offense ranked third in the ACC and 28th in the country with an average of 270.1 passing yards per game.
Landen Akers is six foot and weighs 189 pounds. The 26-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2021. He appeared in two games for the Rams making one tackle (1 assist) and spent the rest of the 2021 season on the practice squad before the Rams released him on August 30, 2022.
Then, Akers was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas (XFL) in the third round (18th pick) in Phase 6 of the 2023 XFL Draft. In 2023, Akers made 30 catches for 301 yards, one carry for one yard, and eight punt returns for 72 yards in six games.
After the season, Akers was traded to the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) on August 9, 2023. However, the Roughnecks were not included in the XFL and USFL merger forming the United Football League. The Brahmas drafted him in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. In 2024, Akers made seven catches for 126 yards, five kick returns for 108 yards, and four tackles (2 solo, 2 assists) in eight games.
Collegiately, Akers played four seasons at Iowa State (2017-20) making 38 catches for 593 yards, one touchdown, one carry for eight yards, 14 kick returns for 293 yards, one punt return for 18 yards, 19 tackles (13 solo, 6 assists), and one blocked kick in 48 games for the Cyclones.
