The Toronto Argonauts signed offensive lineman Landon Rice to the practice squad on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Landon Rice is six foot six and weighs 317 pounds. The 36-year-old from Brandon, Manitoba, played ten games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2023 helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Alouettes did not renew his contract and he became a free agent on February 13, 2024.
Montreal’s offense finished seventh in offensive points per game (20.6), fourth in touchdowns (43), sixth in average net offensive yards (329.7), fifth in average rushing yards (102.2), sixth in average passing yards (250.0), and eighth in sacks allowed (61).
The Montreal Alouettes acquired Rice along with offensive lineman Tony Washington from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for quarterback Johnny Manziel on July 18, 2018. Rice has played 59 games in four seasons with Montreal. He is a two-time CFL East All-Star in 2021 and 2022.
Before Montreal, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Rice as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played 66 games for the Ticats in four and a half seasons. Collegiately, Rice played four seasons at the University of Manitoba (2007-12) helping the Bisons win the 2007 Vanier Cup. In addition, he participated in the 2008 CIS East-West Bowl.
