The Toronto Argonauts released defensive backs Marquis Waters and Darius Joiner from the practice squad on Saturday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Marquis Waters is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Delray Beach, Florida, signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2023. In 2023, Waters made ten tackles (6 solo, 4 assists) in four preseason games for the New York Jets in 2023.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Waters as a free agent on January 8, 2024. Waters played one preseason game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2024 making two tackles earning himself a spot on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Waters played four seasons at Duke (2017-20) with 234 tackles (148 solo, 86 assists), 13 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for 27 yards, 21 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt in 49 games for the Blue Devils. He was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.

Darius Joiner is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 25-year-old from Roanoke, Alabama, signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. In 2023, Joiner made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game for the Houston Texans against the New Orleans Saints.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Joiner on February 15, 2024. Joiner played two preseason games making seven tackles and four tackles for loss earning himself a spot on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Joiner played four seasons at Jacksonville State (2017-20) with 81 tackles (43 solo, 38 assists), four tackles for loss, one interception for 24 yards, and four pass breakups in 29 games for the Gamecocks.

Next, he transferred to Western Illinois in 2021 making 142 tackles (79 solo, 63 assists), seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 11 games for the Leathernecks. He was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and MVFC All-Newcomer Team in 2021.

Then, he transferred to Duke in 2022 with 97 tackles (62 solo, 35 assists), eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions for three yards, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Blue Devils. He was named Third Team All-ACC in 2022.
