Ottawa Redbacks sign RB LeVante Bellamy and release DB Tarvarus McFadden

The Ottawa Redblacks signed running back LeVante Bellamy to the practice squad and released defensive back Tarvarus McFadden on Wednesday.

LeVante Bellamy is five foot nine and weighs 189 pounds. The 27-year-old from Indianapolis, Indiana, signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He spent two seasons on the Denver Broncos practice squad. Bellamy had four carries for 11 yards, and one catch for five yards in five games for the Broncos in 2020. In addition, he played one preseason game in 2021 against the Minnesota Vikings with four carries for two yards.

Next, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders as a free agent on January 13, 2023. Bellamy had 23 carries for 70 yards, five catches for 22 yards, and four kick returns for 95 yards in seven games for the Stampeders. In the 2024 preseason, Bellamy played two games with 19 carries for 92 yards, and one touchdown. The Stampeders released Bellamy on June 1, 2024.

Collegiately, Bellamy played five seasons at Western Michigan (2015-19) with 617 carries for 3,720 yards, 35 touchdowns, 57 catches for 370 yards, one touchdown, and 19 kick returns for 358 yards in 48 games for the Broncos. He was a two-time First-Team All-MAC (2018-19) and MAC Offensive Player of the Year (2019).

Tarvarus McFadden is six foot two and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2018. He also had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.

Next, McFadden signed with the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) on December 22, 2019. He made 10 tackles (6 solo, 4 assists), two interceptions for 78 yards, and one touchdown in five games before the league shutdown due to COVID-19.

Then, McFadden signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 15, 2021. He played two seasons making 65 tackles, five tackles on special teams, four interceptions for 28 yards, and two forced fumbles in 33 games. He is a member of the 2022 Toronto Argonauts Grey Cup Championship team.

In the 2024 preseason, McFadden made six tackles against the Montreal Alouettes. McFadden was released by the Argonauts on June 2, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed McFadden on June 16, 2024, and was placed on the practice squad.

Collegiately, McFadden played three seasons at Florida State (2015-17) making 53 tackles (41 solo, 12 assists), three tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 16 yards, 16 pass breakups, one kick return for 26 yards, and 12 punt returns for 42 yards in 28 games for the Seminoles. He was named First Team All-ACC, First Team All-American, and the winner of the Jack Tatum Trophy in 2016.
