The Michigan Panthers released wide receiver Marcus Simms on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page. According to Pro Newsroom’s James Larsen, Simms is expected to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers will retain his rights should he decide to return to the UFL.
Marcus Simms is six foot and weighs 194 pounds. The 26-year-old from Bowie, Maryland, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Next, Simms signed with the Michigan Panthers as a free agent on June 8, 2022. In 2022, Simms spent the season on the Michigan’s practice squad.
A year later, Simms made four catches for 28 yards, and six kick returns for 243 yards with a long of 67 yards in seven games for the Panthers in 2023. In the North Division Semifinals against the Pittsburgh Maulers, Simms made three catches for 30 yards, one touchdown, one carry for 15 yards, and four kick returns for 106 yards.
In 2024, Simms made 23 catches for 426 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games. In the USFL Conference Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions, Simms made three catches for 32 yards.
Collegiately, Simms played three seasons at West Virginia (2016-18) with 87 catches for 1,457 yards, eight touchdowns, two carries for four yards, 41 kick returns for 992 yards, and 23 punt returns for 157 yards in 33 games for the Mountaineers.
