The Saskatchewan Roughriders activated offensive lineman Brandon Council from the suspended list and released defensive back Rodney Clemons on Friday.
Brandon Council is six foot four and weighs 328 pounds. The 27-year-old from Tar Heel, North Carolina, attended the New York Jets rookie minicamp in 2023. Council signed with the Roughriders on May 23, 2023, and played 12 games that season.
In 2023, the Roughriders finished eighth in average points per game (20.3), sixth in offensive touchdowns (34), fifth in average net offense (346.4), eighth in average rushing yards (84.4), third in average passing yards (280.4), and seventh in sacks allowed (54).
Collegiately, Council played three seasons at Akron (2017-19), making 24 starts playing left and right tackle, left guard, and center in 25 games for the Zips. In 2017, Council helped the Zips to 443 yards of total offense and four passing touchdowns while securing Akron’s top spot in the MAC East.
Then, Council transferred to Auburn (2020-22) playing all five positions in 27 games for the Tigers. He concluded his collegiate career by playing in the NFLPA Collegiate All-Star Game and was named the Team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2022.
Rodney Clemons is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Katy, Texas, spent two seasons on the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans practice squads. As a member of the Titans, Clemons played one preseason game with two tackles and one pass breakup.
Then, Clemons signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on January 16, 2023. He made one tackle on special teams in three games for the Roughriders that season. Clemons played two preseason games for the Roughriders in 2024 making six tackles, one tackle on special teams, and one sack earning himself a spot on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Clemons played five seasons at Southern Methodist University (2015-19) with 275 tackles (204 solo, 71 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, seven interceptions, 34 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two blocked kicks in 54 games for the Mustangs. He was named Second-Team All-AAC in 2019.
