The Memphis Showboats released defensive back Nehemiah Shelton on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Nehemiah Shelton is six foot two and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Gardena, California, was drafted by the Memphis Showboats in the seventh round (51st pick) of the 2023 USFL Draft. In 2023, Shelton made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in three games.
After the season, Shelton signed with the New York Jets. He played two preseason games with one tackle (1 solo) and later joined the practice squad. He was released by the Jets on October 3, 2023. Shelton re-signed with the Showboats on October 16, 2023. In 2024, Shelton made 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assists) in seven games.
Collegiately, Shelton played one season at Long Beach Community College in 2017 with 46 tackles (35 solo, 11 assists), three tackles for loss, four interceptions for 43 yards, and seven pass breakups in 11 games for the Vikings. He was named First Team All-Central League selection after helping the Vikings win the 2017 Patriotic Bowl.
Then, Shelton transferred to San Jose State (2018-21) with 146 tackles (116 solo, 30 assists), one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six interceptions, and 24 pass breakups in 33 games, of which 26 were starts for the Spartans.
