Ottawa Redblacks re-sign OL Eric Starczala and place DB Tobias Harris on injured reserve

The Ottawa Redblacks re-signed offensive lineman Eric Starczala to the practice squad and placed defensive back Tobias Harris on the six-game injured list on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Eric Starczala is six foot five and weighs 315 pounds. The 27-year-old from Cambridge, Ontario, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the seventh round (62nd pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft.

Next, Starczala signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 12, 2022. He played one game for Ottawa in 2023 before being released on August 15, 2023. He later re-signed with the Redblacks on September 26, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad. In 2024, Starczala appeared in one preseason game against the Montreal Alouettes. Starczala started the season on the practice squad and was released by the Redblacks on July 18, 2024.

Collegiately, Starczala played five seasons at Guelph University (2015-19) playing right tackle in 17 games for the Gryphons and was named a two-time OUA Second-Team All-Star.

Tobias Harris is five foot nine and weighs 187 pounds. The 24-year-old from Pflugerville, Texas, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on August 2, 2023. In 2023, Harris played ten games recording no stats. In 2024, Harris made 21 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one forced fumble, and 8 punt returns for 103 yards in six games.  Harris was injured in the second half against the Edmonton Elks last Friday.

Collegiately, Harris played four seasons at West Texas A&M (2018-21) making 162 tackles (112 solo, 50 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, 17 interceptions for 323 yards, three touchdowns, 42 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, 61 punt returns for 804 yards, two touchdowns, 53 kick returns for 1,160 yards, and one touchdown in 34 games for the Buffaloes.

He was a First Team All-American, two-time Second Team D2CCA All-Super Region 4, and Second Team All-Lone Star Conference.

Then, Harris transferred to Old Dominion in 2022 making 33 tackles (14 solo, 19 assists), two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, 12 pass breakups, and two punt returns for 36 yards in nine games for the Monarchs.
