The Houston Roughnecks signed quarterback Davius Richard on Thursday according to Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen.
Davius Richard is six foot three and weighs 220 pounds. A native of Belle Glade, Florida, Richard went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Collegiately, Richard played four seasons at North Carolina Central (2019, 2021-23) completing 711 of 1,215 passes (59%) for 73 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 413 carries for 2,026 yards, 44 touchdowns, one catch for 31 yards, two punts for 70 yards with a long of 40 yards, one touchback, one from inside the 20-yard line, and made three tackles (3 solo) in 45 games for the Eagles.
In 2022, Richard completed 199 of 311 passes (64%) for 2,661 yards, 25 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 130 carries for 788 yards, 15 touchdowns, one catch for 31 yards, and two tackles (2 solo) in 12 games.
In the 2022 Celebrations Bowl against Jackson State, Richard completed 15 of 20 passes (75%) for 175 yards, one touchdown, 22 carries for 97 yards, and two touchdowns leading the Eagles to a 41-34 win in overtime. Richard was named the Celebrations Bowl MVP.
In 2023, Richard completed 166 of 273 passes (61%) for 2,177 yards, 21 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 117 carries for 630 yards, and 18 touchdowns in 11 games. Richard won the Deacon Jones Award and was named BOXTOROW HBCU All-American, College Football Network HBCU All-American, FCS All-American, MEAC Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-MEAC. Richard ranks second as the NCCU’s all-time career in passing yards (6,814), touchdowns (52), and second in career total offense yards (8,210).
After the season, Richard played in the 2024 Hula Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and the 2024 HBCU Legacy Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama. Richard was named a two-time MEAC Offensive Player of the Year (2022-23), and three-time First Team All-MEAC (2021-23).
