The Toronto Argonauts released linebacker Jason Person and defensive back Amani Dennis from the practice squad on Thursday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Jason Person is six foot two and weighs 233 pounds. The 24-year-old from Cleveland, Tennessee, signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2024. He was released by the Patriots on June 11, 2024. The Toronto Argonauts signed Person on July 1, 2024, and placed him on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Person played one season at Appalachian State in 2018 making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist), and one tackle for loss in two games for the Mountaineers. Then, he transferred to Chattanooga (2019-23) making 228 tackles (131 solo, 97 assists), 56 tackles for loss, 27 sacks, five pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 48 games for the Mocs.
In 2023, Person made 56 tackles (28 solo, 28 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and three forced fumbles in 12 games. He was named a two-time All-American, two-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time Buck Buchanan Award Finalist, two-time Second Team All-SoCon, and two-time First Team All-SoCon.
Amani Dennis is five foot eleven and weighs 180 pounds. The 26-year-old from Wheeling, Illinois, played for the Generals (TSL) in 2021. Next, the Philadelphia Stars drafted Dennis in the fourth round (311th pick) of the 2023 USFL Supplemental Draft.
In 2022, Dennis made 42 tackles (30 solo, 12 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions for 29 yards, and ten pass breakups in ten games. In the playoffs, Dennis made eight tackles (6 solo, 2 assists), one interception for 16 yards, and two pass breakups.
A year later, Dennis made 30 tackles (24 solo, 6 assists), three interceptions for 128 yards, one touchdown, two fumble recoveries, and seven pass breakups in ten games for the Philadelphia Stars in 2023. The Stars did not re-sign Dennis and he became a free agent.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Dennis on October 23, 2023, and finished the season on the practice squad. Dennis played two preseason in 2024 making three tackles and earning a spot on a practice squad.
Collegiately, Dennis played three seasons at Carthage (2016-18) with 100 tackles (73 solo, 27 assists), three tackles for loss, 11 interceptions for 145 yards, two touchdowns, 33 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three kick returns for 67 yards, and three punt returns for 17 yards in 29 games for the Firebirds. He was named First Team All-CCIW in 2019, and a two-time All-College Conference of Illinois.
