The D.C. Defenders released wide receiver Brandon Smith on Thursday according to the UFL Transactions page.

Brandon Smith is six foot two and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lake Cormorant, Mississippi, signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He spent one season on the practice squad before the Cowboys released him on August 31, 2022.

Next, Smith signed with the D.C. Defenders on February 22, 2023. In 2023, Smith made eight catches for 118 yards, one touchdown, and 10 kick returns for 218 yards in seven games. After the season, Smith signed with the Arizona Cardinals on June 12, 2023.

He played two preseason games making one catch for six yards before the Cardinals released him on August 29, 2023. In 2024, Smith made 18 catches for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in nine games.

Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Iowa (2017-20) making 91 catches for 1,046 yards, and 9 touchdowns in 39 games for the Hawkeyes.
