The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Tuesday that offensive lineman Brandon Council has announced his retirement.
Brandon Council is six foot four and weighs 328 pounds. The 27-year-old from Tar Heel, North Carolina, attended the New York Jets rookie minicamp in 2023. Council signed with the Roughriders on May 23, 2023, and played 12 games that season.
In 2023, the Roughriders finished eighth in average points per game (20.3), sixth in offensive touchdowns (34), fifth in average net offense (346.4), eighth in average rushing yards (84.4), third in average passing yards (280.4), and seventh in sacks allowed (54).
Council was activated from the suspended list on July 19, 2024, and played one game in 2024 against the Edmonton Elks on August 3, 2024.
Collegiately, Council played three seasons at Akron (2017-19), making 24 starts playing left and right tackle, left guard, and center in 25 games for the Zips. In 2017, Council helped the Zips to 443 yards of total offense and four passing touchdowns while securing Akron’s top spot in the MAC East.
Then, Council transferred to Auburn (2020-22) playing all five positions in 27 games for the Tigers. He concluded his collegiate career by playing in the NFLPA Collegiate All-Star Game and was named the Team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2022.
