The Cleveland Browns signed San Antonio Brahmas long snapper Rex Sunahara on Thursday. The Brahmas will retain Sunahara’s rights should he return to the UFL.

Rex Sunahara is six foot six and weighs 242 pounds. The 27-year-old from Bay Village, Ohio, re-signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 24, 2024. In 2024, Sunahara played ten games making two tackles (2 solo). He helped punter Brad Wing finish second in the league in punting yards (1,607 yards), with a long of 64 yards, and 12 from inside the 20-yard line.

The Miami Dolphins signed Sunahara as an undrafted free agent on August 1, 2020. He spent two seasons on Miami’s practice squad. Next, Sunahara signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 8, 2021. He was released on May 10, 2022.

The San Antonio Brahmas drafted Sunahara in the first round (7th pick) in Phase 5 of the 2023 XFL Draft. He played nine games for them that season as the team finished 3-7. After the season, Sunahara re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on June 19, 2023. He was released by the Steelers on August 26, 2023.

Collegiately, Sunahara played one season at Rhode Island in 2015 making four tackles (2 solo, 2 assists) in eight games for the Rams. In addition, he played basketball at Rhode Island playing three games with one rebound.

Then, Sunahara transferred to West Virginia (2017-19) making four tackles (2 solo, 2 assists) in 25 games for the Mountaineers. He played in the 2020 NFLPA Collegiate All-Star Game and the Hula Bowl All-Star Game.
