The Birmingham Stallions released wide receiver Deon Cain on Monday as he is signing with an NFL Team according to the UFL Transactions page. According to Aaron Wilson, Cain worked out for the Buffalo Bills. The Stallions will retain Cain’s rights should he return to the UFL.
Deion Cain is six foot two and weighs 202 pounds. The 28-year-old from Tampa, Florida, made 33 catches for 436 yards, three touchdowns, one carry for 10 yards, and 14 kick returns for 280 yards in 10 games. In the 2024 UFL Playoffs, Cain made four catches for 25 yards, and two kick returns for 69 yards.
Cain was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round (185th pick) in the 2018 NFL Draft. He tore his ACL during training camp in his rookie year. He made his NFL debut in 2019 with four catches for 52 yards in seven games, of which three were starts for the Colts. After the Colts released him on November 9, 2019, he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cain played six games, of which three were starts for the Steelers with five catches for 72 yards. The Steelers released Cain in 2021. Cain would later spend time with the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tennessee Titans.
Cain signed with the Birmingham Stallions on March 8, 2023. In 2023, Cain made 16 catches for 182 yards, two touchdowns, 23 kick returns for 668 yards, and two touchdowns in eight games, of which five were starts for the Stallions.
In the 2023 USFL Championship Game against the Pittsburgh Maulers, Cain caught four passes for 70 yards, and three touchdowns to help the Stallions win their second straight championship 28-12. He was named the USFL Championship Game MVP. After the season, Cain signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played two preseason games with six catches for 62 yards.
Collegiately, Cain played three seasons at Clemson (2015-17) with 130 catches for 2,040 yards and 20 touchdowns in 42 games for the Tigers. He tied for fourth in Clemson history in receiving touchdowns and was named Third Team All-ACC in 2017.
