Edmonton Elks sign WR D’Marcus Adams and OL Jakub Szott

The Edmonton Elks signed wide receiver D’Marcus Adams and offensive lineman Jakub Szott to the practice squad on Monday along with releasing fullback Brad Hladik and offensive lineman Jaxon Morkin.

D’Marcus Adams is six foot and weighs 182 pounds. The 24-year-old from Ormond Beach, Florida, attended the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp in 2024.

Collegiately, Adams started at Florida State (2018-19) but did not play for the Seminoles. However, Adams competed in track and field finishing sixth in the Crimson Tide Invitational and 10th at the ACC Championships.

Next, he transferred to Florida Atlantic University (2020-21) making three catches for 94 yards, 10 kick returns for 236 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in 17 games for the Owls. Then, Adams transferred to Syracuse (2022-23) making 7 catches for 186 yards, two touchdowns, 6 kick returns for 93 yards, and 16 punt returns for 119 yards in 11 games for the Orange.

Jakub Szott is six foot five and weighs 305 pounds. The 25-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on August 17, 2023. He played seven games for the Ticats. Szott appeared in two preseason games in 2024 and the Ticats released him on June 1, 2024.

Szott was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the fourth round (29th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. He played 14 games playing left guard for the Redblacks in 2021. He was released by the Redblacks on August 15, 2022. Next, Szott signed with the Montreal Alouettes on October 18, 2022, and was placed on the practice squad. He was released by Monreal on May 9, 2023.

Then, he signed with the Blue Bombers on June 9, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster where he played three games in 2023. After Winnipeg released him, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed him on July 5, 2023, and was placed on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Szott played four seasons at McMaster University (2016-19) playing 37 games at left guard with two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist). He was named Second Team All-OUA in 2019.

Bradley Hladik is six foot four and weighs 235 pounds. The 23-year-old from Vernon, British Columbia, was drafted by the Edmonton Elks in the second round (18th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Hladik appeared in one preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2024 before he was placed on the suspended list as he is returning to British Columbia.

Collegiately, Hladik played four seasons at the University of British Columbia (2019-23) making 12 catches for 119 yards, one touchdown, and six tackles (2 solo, 4 assists) in 31 games for the Thunderbirds. In 2023, Hladik made three catches for 31 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 11 games.

Jaxon Morkin is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 23-year-old from Windsor, Ontario, was drafted by the Edmonton Elks in the fourth round (30th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Morkin appeared in two preseason games for the Elks in 2024 earning a spot on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Morkin played four seasons at the University of Windsor (2019-23) making one catch for two yards, and one carry for 8 yards in 28 games for the Lancers. He helped the Lancers win their first playoff game in 50 years.
