B.C. Lions release quarterbacks Jake Dolegala and Brennan Armstrong

The B.C. Lions released quarterbacks Jake Dolegala and Brennan Armstrong on Wednesday. This comes a day after the team signed quarterback Nathan Rourke.

Jake Dolegala is six foot seven and weighs 242 pounds. The 27-year-old from Hamburg, New York, signed with the B.C. Lions on February 14, 2024. Dolegala came in after Adams Jr. suffered the right knee injury against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers completing 1 of 3 passes (33%) for 12 yards.

He made his first start for the Lions last Sunday against the Edmonton Elks completing 14 of 23 passes (61%) for 146 yards, and one carry for five yards. In two games, Dolegala completed 15 of 26 passes (58%) for 158 yards, and one carry for five yards in 9 games.

Dolegala signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He also spent time with the New England Patriots twice, the Green Bay Packers twice, and the Miami Dolphins.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Dolegala as a free agent on February 15, 2022. In 2022, Dolegala completed 16 of 35 passes (46%) for 154 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and two carries for 12 yards in two games.

In 2023, Dolegala completed 216 of 333 passes (65%) for 2,641 yards, 11 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 26 carries for 95 yards, and one touchdown in 13 games.

Collegiately, Dolegala played four seasons at Central Connecticut State (2015-18) completing 654 of 1,136 passes (57.6%) for 8,129 yards, 48 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 233 carries for 452 yards, and 18 touchdowns in 44 games for the Blue Devils. 

Brennan Armstrong is six foot two and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Shelby, Ohio, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. Armstrong attended the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars rookie minicamps. Then Armstrong signed with the B.C. Lions on August 8, 2024, and was placed on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Armstrong played five seasons at the University of Virginia (2018-22) completing 685 of 1,131 passes (60.6%) for 9,034 yards, 58 touchdowns, 35 interceptions, 363 carries for 1,267 yards, 20 touchdowns, one catch for 22 yards, and one touchdown in 41 games for the Cavaliers.

Armstrong set Virginia records in career passing yards (9,034), touchdowns (58), total offense (10,301), and set the single-game passing record of 554 yards against UNC in 2021. He was named Third Team All-ACC and won the Dudley Award in 2021 honoring the top NCAA football player in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Then, Armstrong transferred to N.C. State in 2023 completing 160 of 262 passes (61%) for 1,785 yards, 11 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 143 carries for 665 yards, and 7 touchdowns in 12 games for the Wolf Pack.

He set the N.C. State single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback (665). Armstrong is the most prolific left-handed QB in ACC history with 10,819 yards between UVA and N.C. State.
