The Calgary Stampeders released fullback Paul-Antonie Ouellette and defensive back Jackson Sombach on Wednesday according to the CFL Transactions page. Both players are returning to school.
Paul-Antoine Ouellette is six foot four and weighs 235 pounds. The 26-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, Ouellette was drafted by the Stampeders in the fifth round (42nd pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Ouellette appeared in two preseason games making one tackle on special teams.
Ouellette played three seasons at the University of Montreal (2021-23) making four catches for 45 yards, and one carry for 15 yards in 18 games for the Carabins. In 2023, he played four games for the Carabins after missing the first half of the season with appendicitis. Ouellette was named to the roster for the 2023 East-West Bowl.
Jackson Sombach is five foot nine and weighs 195 pounds. The 24-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the seventh round (60th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. Sombach appeared in two preseason games making two tackles.
Sombach has played five seasons at the University of Regina (2018-23) with 103 tackles (74 solo, 29 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 21 yards, 15 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 27 games for the Rams. He was named a Canada West All-Star in 2022.
In 2023, Sombach made 32 tackles (25 solo, 7 assists), one interception for 21 yards, and four pass breakups in eight games for the Rams. At the combine, Sombach benched 15, a 4.58 in the 40-yard Dash, a 6.97 in the Cone Drills, and a 4.27 in the Shuttle Drills.
