Lehigh Valley gets three hits in a shutout loss in Worcester

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (56-58) played game four of a six-game series on Friday night at Polar Park against the Worcester Red Sox (56-61). Lehigh Valley starter Seth Johnson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) was on the mound making his Triple-A debut against Worcester’s Quinn Priester (3-2, 5.18 ERA).

The game was scoreless through five innings. Lehigh Valley pitcher Seth Johnson (5.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 4 K) threw 84 pitches, of which 45 were strikes. Andrew Bellatti was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bellatti loaded the bases before being replaced by Dylan Covey.

Next, Worcester first baseman Bobby Dalbec hit Covery’s splitter for a two-run RBI double to left field scoring Chase Meidroth and Enmanuel Valdez for a 2-0 lead. Then, Jamie Westbrook brought Eddy Alvarez home with a ground out to Lehigh Valley first baseman Darick Hall extending the Red Sox lead 3-0. A ground out by Reese McGuire ended the inning.

Andrew Bellatti (0.1 IP, 3 R, 3 BB, 1 K) threw 21 pitches, of which 9 were strikes, and Dylan Covey (1.0 IP, 1 H 1 BB, 1 K) threw 22 pitches, of which 12 were strikes.

Griff McGarry (0.2 IP, 1 BB) pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning throwing 13 pitches, of which 7 were strikes, and Michael Mercado (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) pitched in the bottom of the eighth inning throwing 11 pitches, of which 9 were strikes.

Lehigh Valley’s offense struggled in this game getting three hits as they were shut out by the Red Sox 3-0. The loss went to Lehigh Valley pitcher Andrew Bellatti for his second loss of the season. The win went to Worcester pitcher Zach Penrod and Yohan Ramírez earned his third save of the season.
