The St. Louis Battlehawks re-signed offensive lineman Eric Magwood and punter Sterling Hofrichter on Friday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Eric Magwood is six foot four and weighs 300 pounds. The 27-year-old from Virginia Beach, Virginia, went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was a member of the Arizona Rattlers (IFL) in 2022 before attending the St. Louis Battlehawks XFL Showcase and was signed with the Battlehawks on January 29, 2023. He played four games, of which two were starts for the Battlehawks.
After the season, he attended the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp in 2023. He re-signed with St. Louis on January 23, 2024. In 2024, Magwood played nine games, of which one was a start. St. Louis’s offense ranked sixth in total offense yards (2,721), third in rushing yards (977), seventh in passing yards (1,744), sixth in yards per game (272.1), and second in touchdowns (30).
Collegiately, Magwood went to West Virginia State (2015-16) but did not play for the Yellow Jackets. Then, Magwood went to Old Dominion (2017-18) playing 23 games at right tackle and right guard for the Monarchs. In 2018, ODU rushed for 339 yards against VMI, the second most in school history.
Next, Magwood transferred to Eastern Kentucky University in 2019 starting 12 games at left tackle for the Colonels. EKU led the OVC and ranked 20th in FCS football with 205.5 rushing yards per game. Then, he transferred to Middle Tennessee State (2020-21) playing 13 games for the Blue Raiders.
Sterling Hofrichter is five foot ten and weighs 196 pounds. The 27-year-old from Valrico, Florida, was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the seventh round (228th pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. He played two seasons in Atlanta punting the ball 62 times for 2,608 yards (42.1 AVG), with a long of 57 yards, two touchbacks, and 20 from inside the 20-yard line in 18 games.
The St. Louis Battlehawks drafted Hofrichter in the first round (3rd pick) of Phase 5 of the 2023 XFL Draft. In 2023, Hofrichter punted the ball 36 times for 1,460 yards (40.6 AVG) with a long of 56 yards, one pass for 64 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games. In 2024, Hofrichter punted the ball 31 times for 1,357 yards (43.8 AVG), with a long of 63 yards, 11 from inside the 20-yard line, four touchbacks, and 23 kickoffs for 1,628 yards in 10 games.
Collegiately, Hofrichter played four seasons at Syracuse (2016-19) punting the ball 270 times for 11,651 yards (43.2 AVG), with a long of 65 yards, 13 touchbacks, 112 fair catches, 99 from inside the 20-yard line, 72 from 50-plus yards, 171 kickoffs for 10,350 yards, 103 touchbacks, converted 3 of 4 field goals (75%) with a long of 52 yards, 6 tackles (6 solo), one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 25 games for the Orange. He was a two-time First Team All-ACC, Third Team All-ACC, and Third Team All-American.
