Josef Newgarden won his second race of the season at World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday night.

The NTT IndyCar Series was at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, on Saturday night in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin started the race on the pole with Meyer Shank Racing driver David Malukas starting second after his teammate Felix Rosenqvist, who qualified second, was given a nine-grid penalty for an engine change.

There were 676 passes, of which 254 of them were for positions. Scott McLaughlin led the opening 15 laps before he was passed by David Malukas. McLaughlin led 67 laps. Will Power dominated this race leading 117 laps but did not win the race.

Graham Rahal, Marcus Ericsson, and Pato O’Ward suffered mechanical failures early in the race and their days were done. There were six cautions in this race. On lap 196, Josef Newgarden was in second place when he spun around at Turn 2 without damaging the car. At lap 240, Will Power made contact with David Malukas for the lead and Malukas’s day was done finishing 21st place.

Josef Newgarden took the lead with 17 laps to go. The big caution happened on lap 251 when the green flag waved and Newgarden did not go while the others floored the gas pedal. Alexander Rossi hit Will Power from behind causing a four-car crash.

The other drivers involved were Jack Harvey and Romain Grosjean. The race was red-flagged for clean and Will Power let Newgarden know how he felt about the restart.

The race restarted with nine laps to go and Newgarden went on to win his second race of the season by 1.7260 seconds over Scott McLaughlin. It was his fifth win at World Wide Technology Raceway and 31st career IndyCar win. The rest of the top five finishers were Linus Lundqvist third, Alex Palou fourth, and Colton Herta fifth. Those drivers were the only ones to finish the race on the lead lap.

The other drivers who led laps were Marcus Ericsson (13), David Malukas (11), Nolan Siegel (8), Sting Ray Robb (8), Alexander Rossi (8), Scott Dixon (5), Graham Rahal (5), and Linus Lundqvist (1).
