Scott Kingery scores Lehigh Valley’s only run in another loss to Rochester

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (56-62) played game two of a six-game series on Wednesday night against the Rochester Red Wings (67-53) from Coca-Cola Park. Lehigh Valley pitcher Kyle Tyler (5-2, 2.95 ERA) was on the mound against Rochester’s Tyler Stuart (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

At the top of the first inning, Rochester had a runner on first base with two outs when Brady House hit an RBI single to center field scoring Dylan Crews for a 1-0 lead. Lehigh Valley starter Kyle Tyler struck out Carter Kieboom to end the inning.

At the top of the second inning, Rochester had runners on first and second base with two outs when Dylan Crews hit an RBI single to left field scoring Trey Lipscomb for a 2-0 lead. Tyler struck out Darren Baker to end the inning.

Moving to the top of the fifth inning, Rochester had a runner on third base when Carter Kieboom hit Tyler’s slider for a two-run home run over the wall at left-center field extending Rochester’s lead 4-0. A flyout by Joey Meneses ended the inning. Kyle Tyler (6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K) threw 85 pitches, of which 56 were strikes.

Michael Mercado was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the seventh inning. Mercado (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) threw 17 pitches, of which 11 were strikes. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lehigh Valley’s offense did not have a hit nor have anyone on base until Tyler Stuart hit Austin Stuart with one out.

Two batters later, Lehigh Valley had a runner on second base when shortstop Scott Kingery hit Stuart’s changeup for an RBI triple to left field scoring Austin Hayes and the IronPigs trailed the Red Wings 4-1. It was Kingery’s 60th RBI of the year. Former IronPig pitcher Adonis Medina was the new pitcher for Rochester. He struck out Buddy Kennedy to end the inning.

Michael Mercado (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) threw 27 pitches, of which 17 were strikes. Dylan Covey was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the ninth inning. Covey (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 K) threw 22 pitches, of which 14 were strikes.

Lehigh Valley had one more chance in the bottom of the ninth inning. Lehigh Valley right field Carlos De La Cruz and second baseman Kody Clemens both struck out swinging. Finally, left fielder Austin Hays flies out toward right fielder Dylan Crews to end the game.

The IronPigs lost to the Red Wings 4-1 and trail the series 2-0. Lehigh Valley are now on a five-game losing streak. They finished the night with one hit and committed one error. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Kyle Tyler for his third loss of the season. The win went to Rochester pitcher Tyler Stuart and Rico Garcia earned his 18th save of the season.
