San Antonio Brahmas make several moves including releasing ten players

The San Antonio Brahmas re-signed offensive lineman Derrick Kelly II, defensive tackle Caeveon Patton, and linebacker Robert Barnes, and signed defensive back Chris Steele on Friday according to the UFL Transactions page.

The Brahmas also released running back Morgan Ellison, wide receivers Pooka Williams Jr., Calvin Turner, K.D. Cannon, Tavonn Salter, and Kade Warner, defensive tackle Trevon Coley, linebacker Kelechi Anyalebechi, and defensive backs Quincy Wilson and Teez Tabor.

Derrick Kelly II is six foot five and weighs 320 pounds. The 29-year-old from Gretna, Florida, played three games for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024 before he was placed on injured reserve and missed the rest of the season.

In 2024, San Antonio’s offense ranked fourth in total yards (2,966), rushing yards (962), yards per game (296.6), third in passing yards (2,004), and tied for fifth in touchdowns (24).

Kelly II signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2019. He also had stints with the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns. Kelly II played seven career NFL games. The San Antonio Brahams signed Kelly II as a free agent on March 7, 2023. He played three games for the Brahmas in 2023.

Collegiately, Kelly II played five seasons at Florida State (2014-18) playing both left tackle and left guard in 33 games, of which 27 were starts. In 2018, Florida State’s offense ranked third in the ACC and 28th in the country with an average of 270.1 passing yards per game.

Caeveon Patton is six foot one and weighs 291 pounds. The 25-year-old from Cuero, Texas, signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 19, 2024. In 2024, Patton made 16 tackles (3 solo, 13 assists) and 1.5 sacks in 8 games. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Patton made 6 tackles (4 solo, 2 assists), one tackle for loss, and one sack.

Patton signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The Orlando Guardians drafted Patton in the eighth round (57th pick) of the 2022 XFL Draft. In 2023, Patton made 40 tackles (12 solo, 28 assists), and five tackles for loss in ten games for the Orlando Guardians (XFL) in 2023. He earned All-XFL Honors after the season. Then, Patton signed with the Atlanta Falcons playing three preseason games making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist).

Collegiately, Patton played five seasons at Texas State (2017-21) with 179 tackles (70 solo, 109 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 44 games for the Bobcats. He was an All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention in 2019.

Robert Barnes is six foot two and weighs 221 pounds. The 25-year-old from Southlake, Texas, attended the Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamp in 2023. The San Antonio Brahmas signed Barnes on August 9, 2023. In 2024, Barnes made 21 tackles (12 solo, 9 assists) in 10 games.

Collegiately, Barnes played four seasons at Oklahoma (2017-20) making 78 tackles (49 solo, 29 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions for 32 yards, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 32 games for the Sooners. Then, Barnes transferred to Colorado (2021-22) making 77 tackles (50 solo, 27 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, one interception, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 23 games for the Buffaloes.

Chris Steele is six foot and weighs 187 pounds. The 23-year-old from Bellflower, California, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and played three preseason games. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks.

Then, Steele signed with the Calgary Stampeders on May 17, 2023. He made five tackles on special teams in one preseason game for the Calgary Stampeders in 2023. After Calgary, Steele signed with the Seattle Seahawks on July 26, 2023.

Steele played one preseason game making two tackles against the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks released him and he signed with the Toronto Argonauts on January 24, 2024. Steele played two preseason games making five tackles before he was released on June 2, 2024.

Collegiately, Steele played three seasons at USC (2019-21) with 94 tackles (62 solo, 32 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 15 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 29 games for the Trojans. He was named Second Team All-Pac 12 in 2020.

Morgan Ellison is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 26-year-old from Pickerington, Ohio, signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on April 16, 2024. In 2024, Ellison had 46 carries for 206 yards, and 3 touchdowns in seven games. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Ellison had 5 carries for 12 yards in two games.

In 2023, Ellison was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in the 11th round (73rd pick) of the 2022 XFL Draft. He had 52 carries for 254 yards, one touchdown, seven catches for 38 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in five games. Then, Ellison was drafted by the Arlington Renegades in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft but was released on March 10, 2024.

Collegiately, Ellison played two seasons at Indiana (2017-18) with 143 carries for 704 yards, six touchdowns, and nine catches for 60 yards in 11 games for the Hoosiers. Next, he transferred to Independence Community College in 2019 with 98 carries for 648 yards, eight touchdowns, six catches for 18 yards, two kick returns for 32 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 10 games for the Pirates. He was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Then, Ellison transferred to Southeastern Louisiana University in 2020-21 with 45 carries for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and five catches for 57 yards in four games.

Pooka Williams Jr. is five foot nine and weighs 175 pounds. The 25-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on May 8, 2024. He made 4 catches for 12 yards and 10 kick returns for 262 yards in three games.

Williams Jr. signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He played in one game with three kick returns for 52 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The D.C. Defenders drafted Williams Jr. in the seventh round (49th pick) in Phase 1 of the 2022 XFL Draft. In 2023, Williams Jr. had one carry for -1 yard and five punt returns for 33 yards in three games. In 2024, he had one carry for nine yards, two catches for six yards, and three punt returns for 35 yards in one game for the D.C. Defenders in 2024 before the Defenders released him on April 22, 2024.

Collegiately, Williams Jr. played three seasons at Kansas (2018-20) with 415 carries for 2,509 yards, 12 touchdowns, 66 catches for 534 yards, four touchdowns, 18 kick returns for 443 yards, and one touchdown in 26 games for the Jayhawks. He was named two-time First Team All-Big 12, and the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.

Calvin Turner Jr. is five foot eleven and weighs 198 pounds. The 25-year-old from Savannah, Georgia, went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. Then, he was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas in the second round (14th pick) in Phase 1 of the 2023 XFL Draft. He did not play in 2023.

In 2024, Turner Jr. made 3 catches for 36 yards in 5 games. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Turner Jr. made 5 catches for 49 yards in two games helping the Brahmas appear in the UFL Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions.

Collegiately, Turner Jr. played three seasons playing quarterback and defensive back at Jacksonville University (2017-19) completing 68 of 149 passes (46%) for 1,171 yards, 7 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 447 carries for 2,811 yards, 32 touchdowns, two catches for 30 yards, one touchdown, 15 kick returns for 342 yards, 54 tackles (41 solo, 13 assists), half a tackle for loss, six pass breakups, and two fumble recovery 32 games for the Dolphins.

He was named First Team-All Pioneer Football League in 2019, and a two-time All-Pioneer Football League Honorable Mention. In 2018, he set a new Jacksonville University record in rushing yards per game (143.1), rushing touchdowns (17) and yards per carry (6.9) and was just 36 yards shy of the school’s all-time single-season rushing record.

Then, Turner Jr. transferred to Hawaii (2020-21) as a wide receiver making 106 catches for 1,422 yards, 10 touchdowns, 133 carries for 647 yards, 12 touchdowns, 25 kick returns for 609 yards, one touchdown, six punt returns for 46 yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in 22 games for the Rainbow Warriors. He was named a two-time First Team All-Mountain West Conference as a wide receiver.

K.D. Cannon is five foot eleven and weighs 183 pounds. The 28-year-old from Mount Pleasant, Texas, signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 31, 2024. In 2024, he made one catch for 32 yards in 8 games. In the UFL playoffs, Cannon made 2 catches for 7 yards in two games.

Cannon signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2017. He also spent time with the New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams, and Dallas Cowboys.

Next, Cannon signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 11, 2018. He played two seasons in Saskatchewan making 16 catches for 220 yards in 5 games. The Roughriders released him on August 5, 2019. After Saskatchewan, Cannon was with the Los Angeles Wildcats, Seattle Seahawks, and Vegas Knight Hawks (IFL).

In 2023, Cannon was drafted by the D.C. Defenders in the XFL Skill Player Draft. He was released on March 22, 2023. Cannon signed with the Orlando Guardians (XFL) on March 27, 2023. Cannon made 4 catches for 161 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one kick return for 30 yards in four games.

Collegiately, Cannon played three seasons at Baylor (2014-16) making 195 catches for 3,113 yards, 27 touchdowns, 3 carries for 14 yards, 7 kick returns for 114 yards, and 4 tackles (4 solo) in 38 games for the Bears. He was named First Team All-Big XII in 2016.

Tavonn Salter is six foot two and weighs 194 pounds. The 28-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, went undrafted in 2019. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons on December 23, 2019, and was placed on the practice squad. In 2021, Salter played for the Conquerors (TSL) making 16 catches for 85 yards, and three touchdowns.

Salter also spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022. In 2023, Salter signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) on March 21, 2023. He made four catches for 47 yards in five games. Salter signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on June 13, 2024. He did not play for them in 2024.

Collegiately, Salter played one season at Mt. San Antonio College in 2016 making 28 catches for 410 yards, two touchdowns, and two tackles (2 solo) in nine games for the Mountie. Then, Salter transferred to Middle Tennessee State (2017-18) making 21 catches for 297 yards, and two touchdowns in 14 games for the Blue Raiders.

Kade Warner is six foot one and weighs 201 pounds. The 25-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. He played three preseason games making two catches for 29 yards.

Next, Warner signed with the Houston Roughnecks on December 8, 2023, but the original Roughnecks were not included in the XFL and USFL merger forming the United Football League. Warner was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft but was released on March 10, 2024. He re-signed with the Brahmas on May 29, 2024, but did not play a game for them.

Collegiately, Warner played three seasons at Nebraska (2018-20) making 30 catches for 236 yards, and one carry for four yards in 23 games for the Cornhuskers. Then, Warner transferred to Kansas State (2021-22) making 60 catches for 622 yards, five touchdowns, and three carries for 21 yards in 27 games for the Wildcats.

Trevon Coley is six foot one and weighs 307 pounds. The 29-year-old from Miami, Florida, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent on August 29, 2016. He also had stints with the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, and the Chicago Bears.

Coley played 44 NFL regular season games, of which 31 were starts making 100 tackles (53 solo, 47 assists), 14 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, one safety, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Coley signed with the Arlington Renegades on January 23, 2024, but was released on March 10, 2024. Coley signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on June 5, 2024. He did not play a game for the Brahmas in 2024.

Collegiately, Coley played four seasons at Florida Atlantic (2012-15) making 194 tackles (82 solo, 112 assists), 22 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, one interception for three yards, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries in 47 games for the Owls. He was named First Team All-C-USA and Team MVP in 2015.

Kelechi Anyalebechi is six foot and weighs 240 pounds. The 23-year-old from Pearland, Texas, made 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assists) in three preseason games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. The Rams signed Anyalebechi as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2023.

Then, Anyalebechi signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on February 28, 2024, but was released as part of the final cuts in training camp on March 22, 2024. He re-signed with the Brahmas on April 3, 2024. In 2024, Anyalebechi made 8 tackles (3 solo, 5 assists) in 9 games.

Collegiately, Anyalebechi played five seasons at Incarnate Word (2018-22) with 285 tackles (162 solo, 123 assists), 28 tackles for loss, 9.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions for 66 yards, one touchdown, 12 pass breakups, six forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 48 games for the Cardinals.

In 2021, Anyalebechi broke the UIW record for total tackles in a season finishing with 130, and was named Third Team FCS All-American after the season. In addition, he was named First Team All-Southland Conference in 2020.

Quincy Wilson is six foot and weighs 206 pounds. The 28-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was drafted by the Brahmas in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. Wilson was placed on injured reserve on March 18, 2024, and did not play in the 2024 season.

Wilson was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round (46th pick) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Indianapolis with 61 tackles (48 solo, 13 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions for 33 yards, eight pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 29 games.

Next, Wilson signed with the New York Jets in 2020 playing one season with one tackle (1 solo) in three games before spending time with the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. In 2022, Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers appearing in one game.

Then, Wilson signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) on December 18, 2023. The Roughnecks were not included in the XFL and USFL merger that formed the United Football League (UFL).

Collegiately, Wilson played three seasons at Florida (2014-16) with 84 tackles (47 solo, 37 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions for 93 yards, one touchdown, 20 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 39 games for the Gators. He was named Second Team All-SEC in 2016.

Teez Tabor is six foot and weighs 201 pounds. The 28-year-old from Washington, D.C., made 18 tackles (14 solo, 4 assists), and one pass breakup in three games for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024. The Brahmas drafted Tabor in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft.

San Antonio released him on April 23, 2024. Tabor re-signed with the Brahmas on May 2, 2024. He finished the season making 27 tackles (20 solo, 7 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and three pass breakups in 8 games. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Tabor made 17 tackles (10 solo, 7 assists), one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 2 games helping the Brahmas appear in the UFL Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions.

Tabor was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round (53rd pick) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He made 14 tackles (12 solo, 2 assists), and one quarterback hit in 10 games in 2017. Tabor also had stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, and Indianapolis Colts. Tabor played 39 NFL regular season games with 59 tackles (47 solo, 12 assists), and one quarterback hit.

Then, Tabor signed with the Houston Roughnecks on December 15, 2023. The original Roughnecks were not included in the XFL and USFL merger but the Houston Gamblers took the Roughnecks name.

Collegiately, Tabor played three seasons at Florida (2014-16) with 104 tackles (65 solo, 39 assists), 11 tackles for loss, four sacks, nine interceptions for 129 yards, three touchdowns, 28 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 37 games for the Gators. He was named a two-time First Team All-SEC.
