Michigan Panthers re-sign three players including QB Bryce Perkins

The Michigan Panthers re-signed quarterbacks Bryce Perkins and Danny Etling, and defensive back Levonta Taylor on Monday according to the UFL Transactions page.

Bryce Perkins is six foot three and weighs 214 pounds. The 27-year-old from Queen Creek, Arizona, signed with the Michigan Panthers on April 24, 2024. In 2024, Perkins completed 30 of 38 passes (79%) for 343 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, 20 carries for 180 yards, and 2 touchdowns in 4 games.

Perkins signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2020 spending two and half seasons on the practice squad while the Rams won the Super Bowl in 2021. In 2022, Perkins played five games for the Rams completing 19 of 34 passes (55.9%) for 161 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and one carry for 19 yards.

Collegiately, Perkins started at Arizona State (2015-16) but redshirted his freshman year and missed the 2016 season with a broken neck. Next, He transferred to Arizona Western Community College in 2017 completing 114 of 180 passes (63.3%) for 1,311 yards, 7 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 69 carries for 353 yards, and four touchdowns in 10 games for the Matadors.

Then, Perkins transferred to Virginia (2018-19) completing 545 of 845 passes (64.5%) for 6,218 yards, 47 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 439 carries for 2,235 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 27 games for the Cavaliers. In 2019, Perkins set the UVA single-season passing record with 3,538 yards.

Danny Etling is six foot three and weighs 220 pounds. The 30-year-old from Terre Haute, Indiana, signed with the Michigan Panthers on December 24, 2023. In 2024, Etling completed 69 of 114 passes (60.5%) for 787 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 24 carries for 143 yards, and 2 touchdowns in 7 games. In the 2024 USFL Conference Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions, Etling completed 18 of 29 passes (62%) for 182 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and two carries for three yards.  

Etling was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round (219th pick) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, B.C. Lions, Denver Broncos, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was on the Patriots practice squad in 2018 when they won Super Bowl LIII.

Etling signed with the Green Bay Packers on January 25, 2022. It was his second stint in Green Bay. In the 2022 preseason, Etling completed 17 of 22 passes (77.3%) for 220 yards, one touchdown, nine carries for 73 yards, and one touchdown in three games earning a spot on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Etling played two seasons at Purdue (2013-14) completing 238 of 429 passes (55%) for 2,490 yards, 16 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 88 carries for -104 yards, and four touchdowns in 13 games for the Boilermakers.

Then, he transferred to LSU (2016-17) completing 325 of 544 passes (59.7%) for 4,586 yards, 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions, 23 carries for 113 yards, and three touchdowns in 24 games for the Tigers.

Levonta Taylor is five foot ten and weighs 186 pounds. The 26-year-old from Virginia Beach, Virginia, made 23 tackles (15 solo, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, 5 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble in 10 games for the Michigan Panthers in 2024. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Taylor made 5 tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) and one tackle for loss against the Birmingham Stallions.

Taylor signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on April 25, 2020. He was released on August 11, 2020. Next, Taylor played for the Sea Lions (TSL) in 2021. Then, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on April 27, 2022. He attended training camp before getting released on June 2, 2022.

The Michigan Panthers signed Taylor on January 5, 2023. In 2023, Taylor made 40 tackles (29 solo, 11 assists), one forced fumble, and three pass breakups in 10 games. In the 2023 USFL playoffs, Taylor made 4 tackles (2 solo, 2 assist) and one pass breakup against the Pittsburgh Maulers.

Collegiately, Taylor played four seasons at Florida State (2016-19) making 90 tackles (65 solo, 25 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 interceptions for 81 yards, 2 touchdowns, 10 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 43 games for the Seminoles.
