The Houston Roughnecks re-signed defensive back Corn Elder and signed defensive lineman Carson Taylor on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Corn Elder is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 29-year-old from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, signed with the Houston Roughnecks on March 6, 2024. In 2024, Elder made 31 tackles (25 solo, 6 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, 6 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 10 games.
Elder was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round (152nd pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Carolina with 43 tackles (31 solo, 12 assists), one tackle for loss, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 30 games.
In 2021, Elder was signed by the Commanders from Carolina’s practice squad. He made five tackles (5 solo) and one pass breakup in five games. In 202, Elder made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games and spent time on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Elder played four seasons at Miami (FL) (2013-16) with 158 tackles (117 solo, 41 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three interceptions for 49 yards, one forced fumble, and five fumble recoveries in 49 games for the Hurricanes.
Carson Taylor is six foot four and weighs 251 pounds. The 26-year-old from Glendale, Arizona, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on March 18, 2024. Taylor played two preseason games making two tackles. The Redblacks released him on June 2, 2024.
Strong attended the Chicago Bears training camp in 2022. Next, the Philadelphia Stars signed Taylor on February 28, 2023. In 2023, Taylor made 25 tackles (14 solo, 11 assists), five tackles for loss, three sacks, and one pass breakup in nine games. He became a free agent after the Stars were not included in the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League.
Collegiately, Taylor played five seasons at Northern Arizona (2017-21) with 163 tackles (82 solo, 81 assists), 36 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, one interception, seven pass breakups, and six forced fumbles in 47 games for the Lumberjacks. His 19 sacks ranked third in program history since 2000 and his 36 tackles for loss is tied for third all-time at Northern Arizona.
In his final season, Taylor had 30 tackles (19 solo, 11 assists), 10 tackles for loss, six sacks, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in eight games. He was named Phil Steele All-Big Sky Third Team, All-Big Sky Honorable Mention, and Spring All-Big Sky Honorable Mention.
