San Antonio Brahmas re-sign two players including LB Nate Wieland

The San Antonio Brahmas signed defensive back Kaleb Ford-Dement and resigned defensive back Darius Phillips and linebacker Nate Wieland on Thursday according to the UFL Transactions page.

Kaleb Ford-Dement is five foot eleven and weighs 178 pounds. The 25-year-old from Whitehouse, Texas, signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024, and was released on July 26, 2024. Then, Ford-Dement signed with the New Orleans Saints on August 13, 2024. He played one preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers making one tackle (1 solo). The Saints released him on August 23, 2024.

Collegiately, Ford-Dement played one season at Kilgore College in 2018 making 34 tackles (22 solo, 12 assists), 3 tackles for loss, 6 interceptions for 132 yards, and 10 pass breakups in 12 games for the Rangers. The Rangers finished the season 10-2 winning the Heart of Texas Bowl.

Next, he transferred to Old Dominion (2019-20) making 26 tackles (16 solo, 10 assists), two interceptions, and 15 pass breakups in 12 games for the Monarchs. He was named Second Team All-C-USA in 2019.

Then, Ford-Dement transferred to Washington State (2021-22) making 10 tackles (6 solo, 4 assists), 1 tackle for loss, and one pass breakup in 12 games for the Cougars. He missed the 2022 season due to injury.

Ford-Dement concluded his collegiate career at Texas State in 2023 making 32 tackles (21 solo, 11 assists), 3 tackles for loss, one sack, 3 interceptions for 17 yards, and 10 pass breakups in 13 games for the Bobcats.

Darius Phillips is five foot ten and weighs 188 pounds. The 29-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 19, 2024.

In 2024, Phillips made 19 tackles (13 solo, 6 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 7 games. In the 2024 UFL playoffs, Phillips made 3 tackles (3 solo), two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.

Phillips was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round (170th pick) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and Tennessee Titans.

He played 56 NFL games making 75 tackles (60 solo, 15 assists), 2 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions for 103 yards, 3 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 25 kick returns for 542 yards, and 30 punt returns for 209 yards.

Collegiately, Phillips played four seasons at Western Michigan (2014-17) making 127 tackles (89 solo, 38 assists), 13 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 12 interceptions for 376 yards, 5 touchdowns, 47 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 34 catches for 495 yards, 2 touchdowns, 4 carries for 45 yards, 129 kick returns for 3,145 yards, 5 touchdowns, 32 punt returns for 327 yards, and one touchdown in 51 games for the Broncos.

He was named a three-time First Team All-MAC at defense and returner, three-time Second Team All-MAC, and two-time MAC Special Teams Player of the Year (2016 & 2017).

Nate Wieland is six foot one and weighs 223 pounds. The 25-year-old from Iowa City, Iowa, was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas drafted Wieland in the 2024 UFL Dispersal Draft. In 2024, Wieland made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) and one pass breakup in one game before missing the rest of the 2024 season with injury.

Wieland signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on August 3, 2022. He played in three preseason games with two tackles (2 solo) before he was released on August 30, 2022. Then, Wieland signed with the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) in 2023. He played two games with four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist).

Collegiately, Wieland spent two seasons at Iowa (2017-18) but did not play a game for the Hawkeyes. Next, Wieland transferred to Iowa Western Community College in 2019 with eight tackles (6 solo, 2 assists) and two tackles for loss in six games for the Reivers.

Then, Wieland transferred to Grand View in 2021 making 78 tackles (47 solo, 31 assists), five tackles for loss, one sack, one interception for seven yards, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 10 games for the Vikings.
